Should DreamWear mask be used with a short tube?

Post by JimW159 » Thu Oct 13, 2016 4:22 pm

I have decided to give the DreamWear mask a second try. I've ordered a small frame to see if that will help; my question relates to the use of a short tube connecting the mask with the ClimateLine hose. One is not provided, but what are the opinions about their usefulness in this application - yes or no? If yes, are there any suggestions on which short tubes would adapt best?

This short hose has been used by several forum members with their DreamWear mask.

A short hose isn't absolutely necessary but a lot of users wanted a little more hose flexibility and length.

I use a short hose with all my masks because there is less pulling on the mask. Not required though.

The Circadiance Featherweight tube seems to be the only short tube that will connect
most any mask to a long hose. Odd no other company seems to make one.

I have two short tubes from Liberty masks; they are only about 8 inches long and quite a bit stiffer and clunkier than I would like for this application. It's the top of the head routing that makes me think something closer to the size and flexibility of the AirFit mask tube would be optimal. I guess I will have to try the SleepWeaver tube to see if it works well. To some degree I am questioning the economics of the mask - having to buy a separate frame because the whole mask seems not to be sold except with the medium frame as standard and having to add a short tube (admittedly optional), certainly drives the cost upwards. I would expect this to be problematical even with insurance contributing - each mask would ultimately be a custom configuration. Somehow I don't expect many DMEs would be cooperative in the effort.
