No CPAP => Nightmares
So, a few nights ago I ended up sleeping the whole night without the machine. I had the first nightmares I remember pretty much since starting to use the CPAP back in August.
Last night, I woke up at 5am with my nose completely congested. Removed the CPAP and finished the night without. Again, loads of nightmares.
Moral of the story: I really ought to keep the CPAP on anytime I sleep since I don't enjoy nightmares

I'm sure you were told that when you started on CPAP therapy.

Re: No CPAP => Nightmares
Before cpap, I had multiple disturbing, bizarre nightmares every night. Now, hardly ever.
Between that and the cessation of horrible headaches, falling asleep at work, and never feeling rested;
I think I will keep it.

Interesting. I have had a few bizarre dreams but no nightmares since I started therapy 2 weeks ago. I seem to be having a lot of dreams about people I haven't seen in a very long time.marmaduke451 wrote:So, a few nights ago I ended up sleeping the whole night without the machine. I would say definitely keep using the machine. It takes getting used to but just try to fight through it.
Re: No CPAP => Nightmares
While avoiding nightmares is a good reason to use CPAP, so is controlling blood pressure, controlling blood sugar, and preventing heart attacks and strokes.
You're best bet is to work on your congestion. Use more or less humidification and see what helps. Blow your nose thoroughly each night before putting the mask on, see if that helps. Try saline solution, see if that helps.

Re: No CPAP => Nightmares
I don't recall having nightmares since becoming an adult many years ago. My wife said she has frequent dreams where she is drowning. She is finally going to have a sleep study tomorrow night. I have been trying to get her to do so for the last two years. On our last physical, I told our doctor that my wife would quit breathing while sleeping, so the doctor scheduled the sleep study. I'm in the dog house, but it's worth it. After 53 years, I would hate to try to train a new wife.

Re: No CPAP => Nightmares
I now think its seasonal change that's causing my intermittent congestion. You might want to try changing the humidifier setting.marmaduke451 wrote:So, a few nights ago I ended up sleeping the whole night without the machine. As it got even drier here, I've got mine on 4 and sinus isn't bothering me at all today. It's trial and error, keeping my fingers crossed.
We finally got rain here today too. Good luck.

I'm just waiting for my A-CPAP machine to arrive, but have had nightmares every night for most of my life. Will be interesting to see whether CPAP can change this!chunkyfrog wrote:Before cpap, I had multiple disturbing, bizarre nightmares every night. Now, hardly ever.

Minimizing trips to the bathroom was enough for me.
