ResMed Hypoallergenic filters

Post by Tformhals » Sun Oct 23, 2016 3:36 pm

Does anyone use the ResMed Hypoallergenic filters? We have a cat and a dog that sleep in bed with us I'm thinking it might be worthwhile to try them. The filters the medical vendor sold me appear to be cut from a roll of filter material and don't look the same as the filter that came with the machine.

I sleep with 2 cats and use the Resmed hypoallergenic filters with my Airsense 10 auto. The hypoallergenic filters appear to be better quality and have a finer weave. Medicare reimburses the DME for this filter just like with the non allergenic filter but a different billing code is used. Each filter is wrapped individually with Resmed packaging.

Well, here you have a challenge. Most of the DMEs can't or won't provide Resmed brand filters. Ask for them. As an alternative, ask for the hypoallergenic version of the knockoff that they are providing. With Lincare, I can't get the Resmed brand filters from the warehouse because they don't stock them, but I CAN get it directly from my local office.

In my opinion, unless you have allergies, the knockoffs work pretty well. If you have allergies, then it's not enough. That said, in my experience with other machines, the manufacturer's brand of filters extends the life of the machine by a fair amount.

Note: I have 5 cats here, although only one sleeps with me.

My first DME told me hypoallergenic filters did not exist, even after I provided them with the separate billing codes and showed them where to find their "knockoff hypoallergenic" filter in their catalog. I have allergies and two cats. I had not yet begun treatment and their denial that the filters even existed annoyed me so I returned the machine and found a new DME that would provide me with the machine and the filters I wanted.

that's because the filter that came with the machine, while cut from a roll, was likely the plain filter, not the smoother, thinner hypo filter.

I get mine from ebay/amazon.

I have been looking online for the ResMed brand filters without much luck. I can find the knockoff Hypoallergenic filters everywhere. Going to call tomorrow and see what the DME can do.
