Is it brain fog or not ?

Post by papzombie » Fri Oct 21, 2016 4:22 am

Hi all,

One google result on brain fog says: "Brain fog sums up feelings of confusion, forgetfulness, and lack of focus and mental clarity" http://bebrainfit.com/stop-brain-fog-kn ... solutions/, while another source says: "brain fog is as if you don't experience the real life, but kind of half-dream through the life"

As an OSA-er on treatment, I do have memory, fatigue and concentration problem, but there is one more feeling I want to decode: a weird feeling on my head in the morning (from 10:00 --> 13:00), that I am not sure how to call it.

In the picture below
- At area 1: I feel a pressure in a strange way: something is constantly bothering me, like a tension, or numbness. This only happens in the morning, 10:00 --> 13:00
- At area 2: A mixture of pain and tension. Not only in the morning, but I do feel pain there as well if I use my brain too much (thinking excessively)
- At area 3: a mixture of pain and pressure. This only happens in the morning, 10:00 --> 13:00

Image

This weird feeling in the morning seems stronger if the evening before I did not sleep early at ~ 21:00 but do something with computer (read, do administration work, emailing, ....)

Do you know which area of my head relate to the brain fog the most, or none of them at all ?

You may or may not have the usual a.m. mild headache of untreated (or poorly treated) OSA... but without more info, such as your pressure settings, full name/model of machine, mask type, etc. etc. it's impossible to say. Can you fill in your Profile so info will appear under your notes auto. whenever you post (but put pressure settings, etc. in your notes in this thread). Are you using Sleepyhead software?

Brain fog is a subjective feeling of cognitive dullness, not a physical symptom.

I did update my machine info.

So it seems my feeling on area 1 of my head is not called brain fog ?

Please go here and look at this humidifier and tell us if this is what your humidifier looks like

https://www.cpap.com/productpage/respir ... ifier.html

Your machine isn't showing up...not unusual as there are a lot of broken links in the menu.

I have never heard of brain fog being a physical symptom like you are describing. It's always been more of a mental symptom. I would suggest a discussion with your doctor is in order about the physical symptoms you are describing.

My machine is this https://www.cpap.com/productpage/respir ... -plus.html
My humidifier is this https://www.cpap.com/productpage/respir ... ifier.html

If that is only a feeling of pressure on area 1 (frontal area), is that also common among OSA people ?

I don't know and can't answer your question. I can't say that I have ever had "brain fog" and the only time I have ever had discomfort in the frontal area has be from muscle tension headaches secondary to a bad cervical spine.

I suggest you discuss your symptoms with your doctor.

Not necessarily so defined or localized, though some may feel a similar problem... you must ask a doctor, but not responding to the question about your pressure settings when it might help (if they're too low to be effective - it's common) is not going to help, and as was already said twice brain fog is NOT a physical symptom.

You have chosen the wrong humidifier from the menu.
The link to your machine is broken because your machine has been discontinued.

The correct choice for your humidifier based on the links you provided would be
PR System One Heated Humidifier

The machine choice from the menu is broken so the best thing is to just add it manually in the comments section.
This would be sufficient

Where you feel things has nothing to do with what is actually happening in many cases. Migraines often gave me pain under my shoulder blades. There was nothing wrong there.

There are also sinus cavities in the front of the head and at the back of the head. You can experience all the same problem due to sinus issues.

Areas 1 & 2 would be places where a person could feel sore if they were tensing their facial muscles or clenching their jaw overnight.

I will discuss with my doctor next week.

But my feeling of dullness (low thinking speed, bad memory, lack of concentration) is at it's max when those physical feelings at 3 areas (especially area 1) are at their max.

Then you're likely not being adequately treated...

Of course it is a physical symptom. It is all due to balances of chemicals and hormones. You can create it with drugs as well as with illness. However when it comes to the brain WHERE you perceive the issues is not always where the issues really are. There are no sensors there so the pain experienced is sort of guestimated by your nerve endings.
