Problems on cruise

Post by Concerned » Mon Sep 26, 2016 6:09 pm

ON a recent cruise to Alaska, had problems operating Cpap machine. Problems in stateroom. Machine would not turn on. Machine worked in the hall (using plugs to operate vacuums), at the Front Desk and at the elevators. Clearly problem was in the electrical current in room. Electrician tested the line and said we had 130 V. Unable to explain why it worked elsewhere. had problems every day. Machine has worked fine at home. Cruise was on Holland America which is well known. Any suggestions as to our problem?

In some hotels, the wall outlets are slaved to the light switch.
Maybe that is what happened.
So how did you handle it?

if the "wall outlets are slaved to the light switch" as one poster suggested, you can simply loosen the light bulb.

If that's not the problem, you call the steward to either change you room (test the new room first). Alternatively, ask the steward to run an extension cord from the hall.

So, "concerned", how did the cruise line handle THEIR problem?

One other possibility: the plug on your power supply was not properly connecting to the outlet in the wall. When you plugged in, no electrical connection was made. When the electrician checked with his tester, it made a connection and everything tested just fine.

In a case like this, I would try using an extension cord on the thought that maybe it would make a connection to the wall outlet. You do travel with an extension cord, don't you? If not, ask for one!
I'm workin' on it.

I am starting to think the only response non logged in users should receive is "Sign in, post a couple times so we know you will come back and we will be hapy to answer/comment on your message."

So many dump and run messages...
