A leaking hole on the front of Dreamwear Nasal Mask

Post by crappyman » Fri Jul 15, 2016 3:34 am

Besides the holes that attach to the nose, I found there was another hole on top where I could feel leaking when I put my finger on top.

I am just wondering if it is an intentional air outflow port? or is it simply a tear?

There are two ports on the dreamware. One at the top where the hose joins the head band and one underneaththe nose. From your description it sounds as if your mask is fine.

it's times like these that I wonder why any company bothers to write a users manual.

You know, I've been wondering about this lately as well. ....and Not just for cpap.
It just seems times have changed. I think the day of the included "user manual" has already passed.

Folks seem to be losing the ability to read 'books'. Many never really did.

Also, there is just the idea of text size. I fight ever having to pick up a pair of 'reading glasses' and I installed a magnifier in the kitchen to see instructions or expiration dates on items. I can increase the font size on the computer so that I can comfortably see. I do whatever I can on the computer to avoid resorting to those glasses.

I happen to be a lifelong reader and I love books and have never tried a kindle but I can definitely see things changing all around me in the world.

I think companies should make the first page of any USER MANUAL just a giant link to the information online. They can do so much more with their manual online. There can be videos and animation, easy search options, etc.

Users manuals take up space, can get lost, can be hard to see (if you can't find your glasses) and often require IQ's of 100 or better. I really don't know why any company depends solely on a user manual in 2016 if they genuinely care about their customers and their product?
Began XPAP May 2016. Autoset Pressure min. 8 / max 15. Ramp off. ERP set at 2. No humidity. Sleepyhead software installed and being looked at daily, though only beginning to understand the data.

yes there is an intentional vent on top. In fact it is a series of small holes in a pattern.

Now like some, I could get all indignant because a couple of months ago, I posted here and asked pretty much the exact same question. Or like some other others, I could play the RTFM card. Maybe its easier to just help the OP.

I guess the indignant ones feel a new reader should be responsible for knowing every past post and as for RTFM, maybe the manual shows that there are vents and maybe it doesn't. Maybe I could find mine and look or maybe it got thrown out.

Perhaps it's just easier to answer the question if you know the answer.

In the end, if there's something on any item you buy that you feel may not be as it should, take it back and ask about it... all we can do is guess (you haven't provided a link to a picture).

The ports are there for exhaled air and surplus air to escape.

No, there's a 4th hole, until you put the mask on, it the where you insert your face. I hope all the holes are accounted for. Jim

This is why many manuals are written in several languages; and some companies even use illustrations.
I was given a book of such illustrations; and some were hysterical!

Here are the directions for the Dreamware mask: http://www.directhomemedical.com/masks- ... ctions.pdf

Where does it say to expect a lot of air coming out of the leaking hole on the front of the mask??? It shows that part as having "built in exhalation" in really tiny type in the drawing of the mask parts (pg 2). That's it. Easily overlooked, not easily understood for someone new to all of this.

Give the newby a break! This is ALL confusing.

How many newbies have we seen that panic because a lot of air is "leaking" out the front of their mask from the vent holes???

CPAP is not intuitive. It's better for a newby to ask questions than to return an otherwise great mask because you think that "leaking hole" is a problem--or worse--to jam up the vent to stop the "leaking". Keep in mind that newbies are sleep deprived and not necessarily functioning on all burners at first.

They come here for our help, not to be insulted.

If you insult new users for asking questions that seem dumb to you where will they turn for other questions that might have major impacts on their health?

If this is really a board to help people the don't co sided any question as stupid.

It's not like their DME or doctor can give a good answer half the time.
