Looking to Rent Battery Power Pack for travel to rent

Post by Sleeplessnite » Wed Jun 15, 2016 5:03 pm

Looking to rent battery powered pack for my ResMed Air Sense 10 that will allow ample running time in between charges for approx. 10 days. I am located in the Charlotte NC area and will be traveling to NYC area in August. I cannot afford, to buy a battery pack since they are so expensive and no company rents them and this is a one time use. I am planning a trip where there will be no access to electricity and am in search of renting a unit. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Faced with the same dilemma, I chose to purchase a spare machine designed to run on ordinary 12V DC.
This way, I have an emergency machine in case of power outage or even my Airsense dying on a weekend or a road trip.
The proprietary battery pack is just too effing expensive, which may have a bearing on why nobody rents them out.

I don't think that even the pricey ResMed battery pack will last 10 days without some sort of recharge.

And sorry, don't know of anyone who rents any battery packs except maybe some sort of online rental and most of those aren't really targeted towards cpap machines and the ResMed machines have some special power requirements since they run on 24 volt and most batteries are 12 volt.

How long a battery will last is going to depend on the machine...the settings..using the humidifier or not (it's going to use a LOT of power. I don't know of any that will last 10 days even at a low pressure setting and no humidifier without some sort of recharging the battery.

the pricey resmed pack is good for "up to 13 hours".

what the OP is wanting is going to take a string of big, heavy, lead acid batteries with something like 150AH of capacity. (based on people saying that they get 3ish nights out of a 35ah without trouble and factoring in some safety margin).. (mind you, that's not even a back of the napkin calculation, but hopefully it's in the ballpark)

or a battery and a solar panel for daily recharging.

Just to clarify, I need to rent the unit for ten days. I know the battery will, at most, be able to be used for 8-14 hours with each charge.
Pricey dilemma!

and I know nothing about them nor do I know the rental costs.

The Resmed units present a more difficult problem for powering with a battery, because they use 24 volt power, and require that the power supply include a signal that is provided only by OEM power supply connectors. A battery source does not need to be expensive, and many have used the PowerAdd Pro Li-Ion power bank with the Resmed 12V to 24 V up-converter.

These units will provide 2 to 3 nights per charge. You will minimally need the Resmed DC adapter, and I doubt you can source a 12-volt battery rental. Here is a link to a long thread discussing this: viewtopic/t103170/Backpacking-Hiking-an ... t-Pro.html

Whether or not it is profitable to put an item out for rental will influence its availability.
When purchase of a battery pack was my only choice, I "jumped the track".
I actually spent a little more money; but I have the security of a backup machine,
instead of a rarely used, very costly battery pack.

Businessmen who travel.

I have nothing really to recommend having no personal experience, but other threads have mentioned buying a converter (about $100) and then you could hook up to any 12 volt battery.

I'm confused - are these posters the same? I don't know of any rentals, but if you tell us about your trip there may be a solution.

So this is over a year later and I'm in the same dilemma. I really would like to rent a battery pack for my ResMed S9. Have there been any changes in the past? I'm going to Europe and I can't justify spending $700 for a battery pack. The airline's won't let me use my CPAP on board. Does anyone have any ideas please?

You're really going to have to tell us a bit more about your needs. First of all, the $700 is the most expensive battery you can buy. Secondly, you said you want 10 days between charges, which is rather difficult. You seem to have survived your trip last year; how did you do that?
