Masks better than the Dreamwear?

Post by DaisySmith » Sat May 21, 2016 6:39 pm

Its almost time for a new mask and Im wondering if there would be any benefit of trying something else. I am using a Dreamwear and I generally like it though sometimes breathing seems harder than others. I have to say it's a heck of a lot better than the nasal masks Ive tried. I cant stand having a cup over my nose.

Has anyone liked the Dreamwear but liked something else even better?

For me the DreamWear is the best of the best. I'm not sure how you could improve on it.

Every single mask out there is better - for someone.....

Meaning the best mask is one that fits YOUR face and feels comfortable.

Personally, I do not like the Dreamwear at all. The headgear is very comfortable, but the nose piece makes terrible noises, leaks and shifts around. It wakes me up all night. I always go back to my Swift FX, Airfit P10 and occasionally the Amara View and the Golife for Her.

I am aware that nobody can tell me what mask is right for me but Im asking for suggestions as far as masks that are similar to Dreamwear and other people's opinions of them

There used to be a nasal mask that used a similar nose cushion (called cradle cushion) but I think it was discontinued but someone somewhere might have one laying on a shelf somewhere. It wasn't hugely popular though and the headgear was awful. The DreamWear is leaps and bounds better pretty much all the way around.

Which part of the DreamWear were you wondering about if there was something else out there like it?
It's pretty much in a league of its own.
If you can pinpoint what you like about it...maybe we can think of one that does something similar.......like the hose attaching at the top or something.

The Dreamwear is revolutionary in that it is the only mask (that I know of) that has the hose running out of the top of the head allowing a freedom of movement not available from other masks. It is also less intrusive in that the only strap goes at the back of the head and the silicon airways are reasonably comfortable. Most importantly there appears to be only one pressure point.

I'm sure that if other mask makers used the hose at the top of the head principle their masks would be much more acceptable.

I've been thinking how the Dreamwear might be improved. You could possibly put some small pillows in the nasal piece to reduce leakage but not sure if this would really work. The strap at the back could do with some modifications but the fact that it is quite slim and flexible makes it quite good to use - I don't even notice it is there possibly because I fluked the tension adjustment.

The leak rate in my mask has risen lately and I suspect that a new nasal piece might solve this problem. I'm picking up a new one tomorrow. Expensive at $AUS90 but a necessity.

I hope they are working on a Full Face Mask with the Dreamwear frame. That would be nice.

I've just ha my check up at my lab and was delighted when they turned round and gave me the DreamWare mask.

I have never had such a mask with literally nothing to it! I have to admit I didn't think I'd be able to get away from full face with being a dual breather but as I am having to use a mouth guard to stop grinding was advised the best would be a nasal mask and it is amazing!

Have to admit I was a little hurt by the comment from my partner who said it looked like a Telly Tubby mask! but so far so good.

I think it can be difficult to find a mask on suggestions as we are all different and think we just have to try ourselves and see how it goes.

For a number of years I used one of the Resmed Mirage masks, with varying degrees of discomfort. But in my most recent sleep study, they fitted me with a Dreamwear and I thought it was really comfortable. So with my new equipment prescription, I asked for one.

But when I arrived at my medical device supplier (can't remember the exact term for that, isn't there an acronym?), they didn't have the Dreamwear available and gave me the Airfit P10. I am loving it. In retrospect, although the Dreamwear was really comfortable for me, I recall that it felt leaky.

Right now I'm only having two minor issues with the Airfit. If I don't have the headgear tension right, I guess it is too tight and pressing into my nose, which isn't uncomfortable but breathing is hard, so I have to adjust it. But the other issue is that I don't know what to do with the hose. My old mask had its hose routed through my Pap Cap. That won't work for this one, but even if it did, I've given up on the Pap Cap--the new design (meaning new from a couple years ago) never fit me right.

So now I'm bringing some of the hose under the covers in an effort to make sure there isn't tension on it as it goes into the nasal pillows.

Daisy, it's true to each their own, so I can only relate my personal experience. I tried the Dream Wear but sent it back because it's more of a nose pillows "mask". Pillows don't work for me. The Wisp nasal mask does. It is non-invasive, comfortable, and doesn't leak. For added comfort I also use the REMZZ mask liners.

CPAP.com (nav) is great because they have a return/refund insurance. Great for we who don't really know what to buy. They're having a sale and free shipping now.

Maybe you're where they got the idea all this time later.
