How to know duration of Apnea
How to know duration of Apnea
The users guide for SH does not seem to give a lot of detail on how to read the graphs, Is there some where I can go to learn more?
One question I have is; Where to find out how long an Apnea, or OA is. The SH guide states, "The number in (brackets) after individual events is used for alignment purposes, to make the events match up to the flow rate waveform.
It may or may not be related to duration, so I left it in, in the hopes someone else might figure it outs,"
Also where can I find out how to read the By Pressure Graph?

Re: How to know duration of Apnea
There are many resources with this information in the stickies at the top of this forum. Another source is the Beginners Guide To Sleepyhead written mostly by valued member Robbie Sue. http://www.apneaboard.com/wiki/index.ph ... SleepyHead
This has the information you're after and much more.

Re: How to know duration of Apnea
To be considered within the sleep apnea diagnosis, and event (apnea) needs to be 10 seconds or longer.

Is the *duration* of sleep apnea events measured in the Sleepyhead data? If so, under what heading?
Thanks

Re: How to know duration of Apnea
It's measured in terms of how many you have per hour, over the hours you sleep each night... I don't know if they go into specifics about length of each one and I don't think you can just look at one feature, because results are reported in a graph format (with much more than just # or duration of apneas) with written ones on the side. However, it does report 'obstructive' apneas and likely won't if they're less than 10 seconds. It's not about 'headings' , but do look at lots of info on the forum, starting with the 1st "Announcement" at the top of the main pg - the 'tutorial'. You're trying to second guess what you think is important, but will only confuse or shortchange yourself... read the info about it instead, a little research we all do when learning.

Re: How to know duration of Apnea
The numbers in brackets are very close to the duration. If you are really into finding the exact duration, you zoom in on the event by left clicking and look at the breath waveform. It is measures your breathing with small half second marks and larger 5 second marks. When you are done you can right click to zoom out.

Re: How to know duration of Apnea
I use an older version of SH. Under the "events" heading on the left side you can see the length in seconds of every event.

Re: How to know duration of Apnea
it works that way on the newer ones, too, plus if you point to an event on the flow graph, it'll show where it figures the start and end is.LSAT wrote:I use an older version of SH. Under the "events" heading on the left side you can see the length in seconds of every event.
respironics numbers are not as exact as resmed's, but in the latest version, Mark has an 'experimental' resync option checkbox to make things line up nicely on the respironics.

Re: How to know duration of Apnea
Thanks to everyone. In the past I have had 90 and 60 sec OA and just wanted to check to see if I was still having those real long ones,
Thanks Sleeprider for the link, lots of info and I did read it........but I still have not found how to read the By Pressure graph. Help

the 'by pressure' graph is probably best just turned off.lilly747 wrote:Thanks to everyone. In the past I have had 90 and 60 sec OA and just wanted to check to see if I was still having those real long ones,

it's a work in progress, based on an idea I had about a graphic/chart way of representing how much time you spent at what pressures, but it hadn't been finished by the time that version was ready to be released.
if you squint, you can see numbers in there read what it is down the left, and what pressure across the top, and how much you spent at each pressure going across....
the lines correspond to to the same colored bars on the left summary panel.
like I said, probably best turned off.

Re: How to know duration of Apnea
Thanks palerider....It looked like a great graph to help evaluate if my pressure setting needed changing eventhough my AHI is well under 5. Thanks again

Re: How to know duration of Apnea
Thanks everybody. I looked at each daily score and got a happy face. Still can't read the data. Happy face is good enough. If I relied on the actual data, it looks significant -- and not very good -- but I guess a happy face is the summary, so I'll go by that.
Thanks
