Pressure, Leakage & Dry Mouth

Post by Robear » Sun Feb 14, 2016 2:34 pm

My doctor recently had DME change my pressure from 8 to 11, because I am not allow to change it. I've learned here that is BS & I should be able to change pressure (& other settings). It seems to me that she can't (doesn't know how to) change it herself. Even when I brought the whole apparatus (not just the SD card) to an appointment, she had me discuss "how things work" with "a DME representative"; not my DME, because "his company didn't get the Medicare contract".

Last 2 weeks in Jan (Pressure 8 )
AHI.....Average=6.0.....High=9.5.....Low=3.0 (Apneas & Hypopneas ranged from 0 to 60)
Mask Fit%.....High=100% (8 nights).....Low= 97% (1 night)

First 13 Nights in Feb (Pressure 11)
AHI.....Average=2.2.....High=3.4.....Low=0.5 (Apneas & Hypopneas ranged from 0 to 24 (only 2 > 10))
Mask Fit%.....High=100% (3 nights).....Low= 52% (1 night)

I really don't care about mask fit, IF my AHI is down AND there is no (or little) discomfort. After all, that's the goal, isn't it? I DO care about the overwhelming dry mouth & throat that I've experienced since the pressure was increased. The only thing my doctor told me about the numbers is, "AHI under 5 is good".

Any suggestions for combating dry mouth? Humidity (4 or 5) doesn't seem to make a difference. I use Breathe Rights, which I think helps a little. I plan to have DME send a decent chin strap.

I definitely will insist upon getting the ability to adjust the pressure. I want to try 9 or 10. Which other setting should I be able to change? I kinda feel the need to "protect myself against myself" since all this is relatively new to me. In other words, I don't want to be able to totally screw things up, accidentally or otherwise.

If you're not part of the solution you're just scumming up the bottom of the beaker!

Get the Clinicians manual here : http://apneaboard.com/adjust-cpap-press ... tup-manual
