How Can I sell my almost new ResMed Airsense 10

Post by charbat » Sun Feb 14, 2016 7:06 am

I have a gently used ResMed S10 AirSense AutoSet with EPR and Integrated Heated Humidifier - ClimatelineAir Tubing Included that I can not use. I bought it on December 1, 2015 and it has approximately 234 hours on it. Can anyone tell me where I might be able to sell it? I paid over $900 for it new just 2 1/2months ago. Comes with carry case, all the user guides and heated tubing(never used).

You obviously need it. Your AHI and low O2 on your sleep study points that out. Don't give up so soon. Keep the machine...I assume you paid out of pocket and didn't rely on insurance. Keep reading posts on this board and try again.

LSAT, I may "need" the cpap machine but I have never fallen asleep with the cpap since I purchased it. I lay there awake for hours, hence the 234 hours on the machine. I am way too tired trying to make it work. Doctor won't prescribe anything so I am at a loss.

Is switching doctors an option?

Hi 49er, I have actually tried the only two doctors that deal with sleep apnea in my area. Neither will prescribe anything to fall asleep with and I think lying awake for 2 1/2 months "trying" to get used to the cpap is all I can take. My sleep study was a home sleep test and I think my low O2 number was faulty since my son said I do not snore at all. I also have lost a significant amount of weight since starting which I am sure will help my apnea. The issue is not one of getting used to the cpap as I have overcome the claustrophobia and anxiety when I started. I just can not fall a sleep with it on. If I take it off, I fall right to sleep.

With an AHI of 22 you do NEED that cpap. You are in denial thinking that you are 'sleeping without it". With 22 wake ups each hour, you are getting zero restorative sleep. It is critical you use the machine- period. Stop taking off the mask.
Losing weight does not mean you are cured. I am not overweight, never have been, and I have an untreated AHI 30. If you think you are cured, the only way to verify that is another sleep test.
Don't give up, keep the machine. It can save your life. Find another Doctor to deal with the insomnia.

Charbat,

I totally understand your frustrations but being thin and not snoring, does not protect you from sleep apnea as someone who is thin who has a 25 AHI. I agree with Cards Fan about getting a sleep study if you think you are cured from the weight loss.

Meanwhile, can you ask your PCP for a sleep aid prescription?

What have you tried in an attempt to fall asleep?

Finally, if you truly feel you can't make pap therapy work, I would look into a dental device unless a sleep study says you are cured of apnea. You definitely don't want to ignore it.

Hi 49er,
Because of the fact I can't find an apnea doctor to prescribe any sleep aids for me I have tried OTC's like Benedryl and allergy meds. They make me drowsy but fail to help me fall asleep with the mask or the nasal pillows (I have tried both). It is not an issue of leaks or anxiety or being uncomfortable. I just lay there hyperalert and not able to dose off. I can fall asleep WITHOUT the Cpap.

You have trained your brain that you need to take off the cpap to sleep. That is just a bad habit to get into. If your head is on the pillow, you should use your machine. Please do not give up.

When I first started CPAP I had a very hard time with sleeping with it on. But I was extremely determined to make it work and not be tired and miserable like I was. I basically never took the machine off during the night for any reason even when I would be up most of the night. My thought behind this is eventually my body will get tired enough to sleep. it took about two or three weeks to be able to sleep at all with it. I literally did not sleep hardly at all those beginning weeks. But I never took the mask off at all. I made myself use it. It paid off because I could not sleep without it anymore it is amazing.

Thank you all for the pep talk. I guess when you are so tired it is hard to be motivated to continue doing what is making you so tired in the first place. I will make one more try to fall asleep with the cpap on all night.

good. Whatever happens, keep the mask on. Your body will eventually sleep.

LSAT,
I did a home sleep study. They only hook you up to the Oximeter and some small nasal canulas to measure breathing. There is no CPAP machine with air blowing down your throat. According to my study I slept one hour which the doctor said was enough to prescribe a CPAP machine.
