Any place online sell home sleep studies withou prescription

Post by MrGrumpy » Fri Feb 12, 2016 5:02 pm

I tilt towards Resmed and I know they make some home sleep studies. Can you buy them yourself? Without a prescription? If you get a prescription and pay for them without health insurance, anybody know what they cost if you buy them off an Internet dealer and not thru a local DME?

Thanks
Id be dead by now if I didn't use my CPAP gear every night.

Google is your friend... lots of places do home sleep studies, you don't need a Rx for the study, just the machine. They offer package deals for study. reading, RX. etc.

Didn't you just do an in lab test? What about those results?

what elgrumpo doesn't seem to understand.... a home test only confirms that one *has* apnea. which means, he'd just be throwing away money to find out what he already knows...

Yeah. This week did a split night, the only split night and its going to be the last split night I ever agree to do. It sucked. Slept awful. Had insomnia, did not fall asleep until at least midnight. I dont know how long I was asleep for sure, but Im thinking at least five hours. The tech did not wake me for titration, so I assume I flunked it and no longer have sleep apnea.

Although my Resmed S9 goes up to the 11s and sometimes higher for my 95th percentile every night.

Get the results back in two weeks. Have no idea what the doctor is going to tell me. He seems on the real conservative side.

This will make the sixth sleep study of some form Ive had since 2000. Of those, only one claimed I had ZERO OSA. And Im convinced that was due to insurance not cooperating and the doctor falsified the records to get rid of me.

Ive got a backup plan, but its a run around and will be expensive.

Don't get the Sleep Test confused with the Pregnancy Test, the instructions are different! Jim

What are you trying to accomplish with all of those sleep studies? And back up plan for what?

They can only do a split study with titration the same night *IF* you meet certain criteria early enough in the night for the titration. They don't tell us the exact criteria, but I believe it needs to be at least 2 hours and at least 30 ahi.

Since they didn't wake you, there either wasn't enough time left to do the titration, or you were in the mild to moderate categories so far. A lot of people are worse in REM sleep and get more REM sleep in the later sleep cycles, unless you are already clearly severe, they will wait to see if you are worse in REM.

Since you have an auto machine and data, I would use that to hone in on better settings. Your wide range that they gave you was horrible, so as you narrow it with the use of your data, you should get better results, and start to feel better.

Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?

it's tough to follow the postings of the grumpy one, but his actual doctor prescribed settings was something like 10cm constant pressure, he took it upon himself to set it to 4-20cm, presumably so he could come here and bitch.

Isn't there a solution somewhere in another thread where you set your machine at 4 and in the morning check your ahi with sleepyhead and you will know how many apneas you have had with no therapy. I can't remember where I saw it and from whom, but I did see it discussed several times.
Nan
Started cpap in 2010.. still at it with great results.

well, not exactly, because even 4 does provide SOME therapy. but it can give you more of an idea than nothing.

now, with an auto machine set to start at 4, it just delays getting up to the pressure that is needed for adequate treatment. so only lazy doctors and foolish people set their machine wide open for more than a day or two
