ResMed Airfit P10 CPAP Mask

Post by tjenkins4956 » Wed Feb 10, 2016 4:38 pm

Hello out there. I am new to this site and wanted to post a question. Has anyone experienced any sinus issues with using the ResMed Airfit P10 Mask? I have worn the Mirage FX for over a year and decided to try the P10 as it is lighter. However, everytime I've tried it I have major sinus problems like runny nose, sneezing, etc. Just wondered if anyone else has had these issues with this mask.

Thanks,
Terry

How is your humidity adjusted - sometimes too high can cause the symptoms you mention and a diff. mask may be less forgiving of that. Have you tried lowering the humidity for a couple of days? Maybe your local climate's more humid right now...

I've never had any extra sinus issues when using the p10, no.

I do use it when I'm having sinus problems. it seems to help.

Maybe if you have hair in your nose it might push on it and cause irritation and sneezing.

I've had sinus issues for years. Xpap therapy has only made the situation worse. Doctor has me on claritin and wilson's solution. But it does seem to be helping.

I've had sinus/allergy issues most of my life. The P10 gives me very bad sinus headaches no matter how I adjust the humidity and temperature. It's frustrating because it's the only mask I can use that doesn't seem to leak air into my eyes. I take Benadryl and Claritin and use saline rinses as well as Breathe Right strips and continue to experience the bad headaches. On a positive note, the air pressure is high enough that it keeps my nasal passages open and I can breathe all night through my nose. (Without the cpap machine my nasal passages are congested within 10 minutes of lying down.) Good luck.

I have found a similar issue using the P10. After 3 years of using a nose covering mask in combination with a different nasal pillow, I replaced them with the P10 this year and started to experience the nasal congestion and runny nose immediately. Makes me wonder if I am reacting to something in the plastic... I have tried all of the suggested methods to correct any procedural issue I might have done - daily cleaning, increasing/decreasing humidity, replace the tub, replace the tube etc.. Nothing makes a difference. I am going to have to change to a different manufacturer, paying close attention to the country of origin.

I've only been using the CPAP equipment since the end of December. I started with the Mirage Quattro, then switched to the Airfit F10 FFM.

Just this week I tried the Airfit P10 and it works well for me, my AHI shows much less and no mask leakage. I don't use any humidifier. Also I don't have sinus problems.

I just switched to the Airfit P10 2 weeks ago and almost immediately started have severe allergic reactions to it. It took me 2 weeks to figure it out, thought I had a bad cold at first, but finally confirmed it over the last two nights with help from my doctor. There is something in the plastic of this device causing the allergic reaction. I'm really upset because this mask actually worked for me and gave me my first low API scores vs my full-face mask. Gonna have to look for another nasal pillow manufacturer to try.

Interesting as this is similar to what I was logging in to look for. In the last month or so I have been having days with sinus/cold like symptoms. Lots of sneezing etc. Trying to figure out if the CPAP is causing it. I have the P10 mask but have been using it for over 6 months and only recently has it caused (potentially) issues. My thought was that it was related to the change of season, as the humid summer is over and now the forced air heat is on and the air is very dry. I have the humidifer going on the dreamstation but was thinking maybe it was still drying out my nose which can cause similar symptoms to allergies. I feel the dreamstation goes through water very fast so maybe I will try the lower humidty (could be over compensating for the dry air).
Curious about the possibility of something in the mask material causing it, but then I would expect it to happen all the time, rather than every few weeks or so.

Following up on this very old post of mine so that it may help anyone finding this thread. The problem was drying out my nasal membranes too much, not an allergic reaction. The symptoms feel very similar to allergies, but that will happen if your nasal membranes get really dried out. I added a humidifier in my bedroom in winter time and I moved back to a full-face mask because those don't dry my nose out as much (probably because I also breath through my mouth, but not sure).
