Allergic to mask

Post by Allergic » Tue Feb 09, 2016 5:50 am

I am a newbie to wearing a cpap mask. Has anybody experienced breaking out in a rash in the chin area? It looks like acne or a blistering rash, but it hurts and sometimes itches. Primary doctor gave me antibiotics and a topical cream, which did not help. Can't get into a dermatologist for 2 months and I am getting worse by the day. What can I use to get rid of these blister, acne-looking sores and keep from getting them?

I wear the Swift FX Nasal Pillow CPAP Mask w/Headgear. Before, I wore the AirFit Nasal CPAP Mask w/Headgear.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I don't think it's an allergy to the mask.....I don't use a nasal pillow mask, but I don't think they touch the chin area. (?)

You might ask a pharmacist about it - they are often very good with this type of thing and at least may be able to suggest a topical answer that doesn't require a script... hopefully not a lot lost in trying those.

Perhaps it's not allergy. A painful "rash" might be shingles. If it's getting worse it warrants another visit to your doctor.

In any case, it's not where your mask contacts your skin so unlikely to be caused by the mask.

I would suggest contact dermatitis; but there appears to be no contact.
See a dermatologist. It could be one of any number of skin conditions,
or a symptom of something systemic.
