New to CPAP
New to CPAP
I have just started CPAP after a sleep study. Sleeps around 6-7 hrs per night with the machine now. The problem is when I wake up I find my eyes are bit burning and having the feeling of not adequate sleep. Any thoughts why is it?
I thought it should be other way round with the machine. But the good thing is waking up at night to pee has reduced to from 3-4 to 1-2.

Re: New to CPAP
Your mask could be leaking air from around the cushion into your eyes and so may need either just readjusting (even just a little wiggle downward or otherwise once put on), or a diff. size, or a diff. mask entirely, but it's hard to say from here of course and it would help to know what equipment you're using, what type, make, etc. plus your pressure settings.

My machine is ResMed AirSense 10 -Autoset. Mirage FX mask. Pressure setting 6-11. Last night pressure was 10 and the Leak was 7L/min.
Re: New to CPAP
When I first started I was using the nasal mask N10 and had leaks into the eyes which was a problem since I had severe dry eyes before cpap. Using a liner helped http://padacheek.com/ or make your own out of old tee shirt. And I was also already using Refresh Optive eye drops 4x day. While your leaks aren't bad if they are going toward your eyes it could be making them uncomfortable.

Re: New to CPAP
I am confused. This is a new mask bought at over $200. My CPAP technician say it is to do with the temperature of the humidified air.
Re: New to CPAP
That is a strange reply. The air shouldn't be blowing into your eyes at any temperature. Work on adjusting your mask to eliminate ANY air blowing into your eyes. I doesn't matter what you paid for the mask.....they are all expensive. What matters is getting a good, comfortable fit that is going to support you optimizing your treatment and eliminate the majority of leaks.
Re: New to CPAP
Good advice, but your DME's may also be true if you're using heated humidity. Try the Padacheek liners and if you still have a problem there are specific night masks you can wear under your regular mask to keep the air out...https://www.dryeyeshop.com/onyix-silico ... -p327.aspx

While I don't see the connection with humidity, you can try out different humidity settings to see what works best for you. Do you have the Climateline heated tube? If you do you it may be on auto but you can set it on manual and set the humidity setting separate from tube temperature. In the winter the air is dry and we have a wood burning fireplace insert which also decreases the humidity so I have recently turned mine up to max with a little cooler tube temp. I just have to watch out for rainout, which I haven't had yet, and readjust if needed. Here is a copy of your clinical menu that shows you how to adjust the settings. https://sleep.tnet.com/home/files/resme ... -guide.pdf

Yes, I am using Climateline heated tube. Actually it came the ResMed machine.OkyDoky wrote:While I don't see the connection with humidity, you can try out different humidity settings to see what works best for you. I think it is the leaked air causing the burn feeling on the eyes. Last night I tightened the mask more than usual (I had the strap mark on my face in the morning) and very much reduced burn feeling in the morning.
Is there any mask that the tube can be removed from the mask easily like the one I have now Mirage FX by ResMed. I hate going to the toilet with the tube dangling from the mask. Removing and putting back the headgear also would make me loose the sleep.
Re: New to CPAP
Is the air you are talking about from the mask seal or the air that the vent puts out? If from the seal try the liners or eye mask suggested above. If from the vent it may be bouncing off your pillow and the mask could help.rpq wrote:Yes, I am using Climateline heated tube. Actually it came the ResMed machine.

The F10 FF mask has a connection at the mask to unhook. Check on https://www.cpap.com/ (our forum sponser) for masks that you like.

Re: New to CPAP
rpq, is the mask you have the Mirage FX nasal mask? https://www.cpap.com/productpage/Resmed ... dgear.html That mask does not cost $200, and your insurance probably did not pay that much either. Anyway, if you can use a nasal mask, you could use nasal pillows. You really owe it to yourself to tryout the Resmed Airfit 10P nasal pillow. It is a quiet, minimal mask that is very easy to get a good seal with. It costs about the same as the mask you have ($100), but is very comfortable and quiet, and I would bet the burning eyes would go away. Since the headgear is just a split stretchy band, it is easy to put on and take off, so you don't need to take it with you for those night trips to the bathroom.rpq wrote:I am confused. Tell your CPAP tech that you have not been able to solve the leaks without over-tightening the mask, and ask for the Resmed Airfit 10P nasal pillows. They should swap it out. Half the challenge of this therapy is comfort.

I am using a nasal mask and I am sure the air is coming out of the mask seal/cushion. Is there a nasal pillow mask, the tube can be disconnected from the mask?OkyDoky wrote:rpq wrote: Is the air you are talking about from the mask seal or the air that the vent puts out? In Australia it is around $250. I bought it at $225 on a price matching deal.Sleeprider wrote:rpq wrote: rpq, is the mask you have the Mirage FX nasal mask? https://www.cpap.com/productpage/Resmed ... dgear.html That mask does not cost $200, and your insurance probably did not pay that much either. The problem for me with Resmed Airfit P10 is that the tube cannot be disconnected at the mask.
Re: New to CPAP
I don't think there is a pillow mask that disconnects and reconnects easily without a short hose. There are some nasal masks that don't have the short hose.rpq wrote:OkyDoky wrote:rpq wrote:

What I did when I had to get up with the P10 is take it off. It is the easiest to put back on in the dark when you feel the frame, the top on each side of the tube has small raised ResMed P10 stamped into it. Some people feel the bottom size sticker on the pillow. When you get used to felling these it is easy to slip off and on.
