First night last night, not too bad.

Post by PattyMN » Sat Jan 30, 2016 5:20 pm

I think I swallowed lots of air, but otherwise, not bad = gastric insufflation = lots of tootin'.

Sleep study is 20 AHI, pressure 10. Used 10mg Ambien. Autoset is APAP with 9-10 range (wanted to keep it simple) no ramp, EGR on/set to 2, time in bed, 8 hours. Machine report says 6.16 hours, no mask leak, AHI events per hour 1.2, total AHI .09. I got lucky with the mask, no problems. I'll post SH data after more nights. I'm surprised at the feeling of fullness/pressure in my chest wearing the mask with the machine turned on. Feels physically panicky, but doesn't progress to full on panic. Curious about night 2.

You will get used to it. When I first started I would lay there and concentrate on my breathing, testing the effect of the machine as opposed to natural breathing. It didn't take long before it didn't bother me any more at all.

I'm a couple of weeks into using my CPAP and it doesn't bother me at all. I had one night when I took the mask off, woke up, put it back on, fell asleep, and woke up with the mask off again. One night, so no biggie. I've figured out that the silicone seal on the mask sticks to my skin and seems to stay sealed if I use some light oil on my face where it sits.

The machine readings say 6,7,8 hours with always less than .7 AHI. Can this be better? Should I use SH software to look further? Even though I am lucky to not have troubles with this, I am learning a lot by reading others' posts and answers.

I think a 0.7 AHI is pretty excellent. Of course we all want to chase that perfect night. I would leave everything as it is for a week and then review your cumulative data. Who knows? You may get that 0.0 night with some tweaks. But I can tell you if I could get my average that low, I wouldn't touch a thing.

it can be better... but you probably wouldn't notice any difference in a .7 and a 0.0 night... for myself, I don't notice much difference until I get up over 2, though most of my nights are under 1.0.
