New sleep study required?

Post by hobbs » Thu Jan 07, 2016 12:52 pm

Last study was January 2003. Used a DME for about (3) years. Because of high DME deductibles and the help of ResScan, I have been buying online the last (10) years. Went on Medicare in December and want to get supplies through my Part "B". Original doctor has retired and I need to see a new one. I have a (6) month Compliance Report from my Resmed S9 AutoSet that shows 100% compliance with an average AHI of 0.3 and I still need a new study? Seems like a waste of $$$ to me.

I agree. That's why I stocked up (out-of-pocket) before I got on Medicare. For what little I'll need, I'll still be buying my supplies (whenever that may be) from the online sellers and still out-of-pocket.

However, there have been numerous posts and threads about this subject fairly recently. You might check the posts of "janknitz" and profiles of "chunk frog" and a few others........some folks have links to Medicare rules in their profiles.

I'll be damned! They shipped a new S10 Auto with no sleep study required. They accepted the original sleep study and the confirmation from the new doctor of (6) months recent compliance. Happy dance!!!

They took the deduction out of my check for years.
I will probably not live long enough to drain the udder that I filled.

If you want Medicare to pay for it, you have to jump the hoops, just like you do for insurance companies. If you just want a script to buy it from an online retailer, ask your primary, showing the data sheets. Medicare WILL accept a prior sleep study and I didn't see any rule that limited the time period (we thought it was 10 years, but couldn't find any evidence of a number).

I have zero clue about Medicare, however I did call my ENT to see if I could get my prescription and he said yes. He sees sleep apnea as a lifelong condition. I haven't seen this dr in a decade so that was a nice surprise. I bought my own equipment online because I didn't want to deal with insurance and DME.
