Resmed 10 Display Brightness Question

Post by Heart Jumping » Sun Nov 29, 2015 10:38 pm

Sometimes my display is bright and sometimes it's dim and I can't see any variable that makes it one way or the other. When it was delivered the DME even noticed it and had no idea why. I don't see any type of auto brightness setting that could be causing it.

Anyone else experienced this and how do I change it to always be bright?

Thanks

It has an auto dimmer so it's not too bright at night, but it's a common complaint that it's too dim to see well. Unfortunately there is nothing you can do about it, it is not adjustable.

But what is it based on? Not time of day because it can be dim in the afternoon, nor does it appear to be based on the amount of light in the room.

I have a lamp next to my machine, that I turn on to set the Airsense's light sensor to bright.
The sensor is that small dark spot just by the upper right corner of the screen.
It looks a bit like the "me-facing" lens on my tablet.
Just make sure the screen is flooded with light first, then the display is readable when it comes on.
If the display is on when my lamp is switched off, it quickly dims to barely visible.
The sensor needs more light than you might think.

Thanks, that makes sense, because I've literally had it go dim in a fully lit room during the middle of the day, where one minute the display is bright the next minute it's dim.

One would think for $883.00 dollars you would be able to adjust a brightness level on the machine so you could see the display. Just sayin!

I wish it had a clock you could see when you pressed the rotating dial.
Seeing and believing are often both wrong. FOW

Too many clocks in the bedroom already.
I put them out of line of sight, as visible clocks contribute to insomnia.
I don't need that.
I can always pick up my phone, and check time, temperature, etc.

The display is too small. I cannot wear reading glasses with the mask on. To make matters worse, it dims and becomes useless. My $10 clock has a better display. This is a poor example of design for the user!

Keep a small magnifier next to the machine.

How often is it necessary to look at the display during the night?

I only need to look at the display if I decide I need to admit humidity and/or hose temperature.

I noticed the same thing with this machine. It is indeed responding to ambient light, so when the room is dark, the display gets very dim (too dim, I'd say). I have learned one trick for a quick reading in the dark: hold a white card or paper an inch or so in front of the display when it is on, but dim. The display's dim light reflecting off the card makes the sensor think the room is brighter, so the display suddenly brightens. When you move the card away to read the display, you only get a few seconds before it goes back to dim, so read quickly. :-) As I'm a new user having some trouble with getting used to CPAP, I find it valuable to check the pressure when I experience more trouble. I imagine this won't be necessary later on.

Hopefully, the manufacturer will respond to input
and fix this mess for the next model.
(as if!)

Only if their customers (the DMEs & insurance companies) demand it.
