Data Card -is any card ok to use?
Data Card -is any card ok to use?
I need a data card for my new-ish S9 Resmed. Since I know zero about this stuff, will any card work? Or do I need the one made especially for my machine with the Resmed logo? The one I just got was from Walmart. It says San Disk Ultra plus,
micro SDHC UHS-1 CARD WITH ADAPTER. 16 GB. Full HD video., speed up to 80 MB/S 533x
Is this ok to put in my Resmed S9?
THANKS.

Re: Data Card -is any card ok to use?
ResMed says no. I think there's a regulatory issue related to safety standards in terms of spacing between circuitry and the patient. Probably not much real world risk. Basically, standards don't allow the patient to touch the electronic circuitry of the machine, and a standard SD card might not maintain the spacing the standards require if you touch the SD card with the power on.
Most people who tried it say yes, as long as the card is 1 GB or bigger. One or two users report problems with SDHC cards, but most people have no problem. Even SDXC cards seem to work.

Thankks. I have one more question.
Will the Resmed S9 work ok without the card? It is a back up machine, so I'll only use it very limited nights.

Re: Data Card -is any card ok to use?
Buy the cheapest card you can find. The data stored is very, very small amounts. 1g - 2g is plenty. I've used as little as 32 megs. If you transfer the data to sleepyhead or other software, it's stored on the computer anyway.
The machines will work with or without a card and still stores the data in the internal memory of the CPAP on most units. I've forgotten to plug my card in and still can retrieve past data (except for the very last night which is strange).

Should work OK. However, cards are cheap these days.Cardsfan wrote:Thankks. I have one more question.

Why wouldn't you just get the correct, approved card ? It's not that much $$$ for one.

Re: Data Card -is any card ok to use?
16GB SDHC card has been working fine in my S9 AutoSet cpap for a few months now. It is actually faster for the S9 to read when I put the card back in the machine after importing the data into my computer using SleepyHead, which was welcome. And much faster for the computer to read.

Medical supply companies are held to an extremely high standard for validation. Most cards will work but Resmed cannot legally recommend any SD card that they have not run through their own validation process.

I peeled the Resmed label up partway, and there was a manufacturer label under it,
so whatever Resmed says is pure BS.

Re: Data Card -is any card ok to use?
The CPAP internal ram is doing all the work so the performance of the SD card is not a factor. It's simply taking it out the buffer and writing it to the card taking it's own sweet time. Save your money and go to best buy or amazon or whatever.

Re: Data Card -is any card ok to use?
We really need to be careful about what we say about what other people say. Nothing in the Resmed literature has ever implied that Resmed makes the SD cards or that another SD card will cause problems. Resmed validates the SD cards they sell. This ensures that they meet all legal requirements for medical devices, and Resmed's standards. It also ensures full compatibility with the CPAP machine. it may be that every SD card ever made is fine for use in the machine, but Resmed cannot say this because they can only make statements about products they have tested. No medical company would ever endorse the use of untested electronic devices in the devices they sell. It's a matter of liability.chunkyfrog wrote:I peeled the Resmed label up partway, and there was a manufacturer label under it, so whatever Resmed says is pure BS.
I work in a company that produces computerized equipment. Lots of customers want to use different anti-virus software in the computers we supply. They are welcome to do whatever we want, but we only support issues with the ant-virus software we have officially validated against our software and hardware.
Re: Data Card -is any card ok to use?
Well, this worked out well. I called my local Lincare, and talked to the resp. therapiist.- a nice guy. I asked him about the data card, and he said I should use the Resmed card. AND, he had one he was putting in the mail for me today.
