First night at home on cpap

Post by Rabbit54 » Wed Nov 25, 2015 11:32 am

and I feel AMAZEBALLS! Woke up on my own after 8.5 hours, fitbit shows 7.5 hours of sleep with 3 hrs rem/deep sleep. Can't do sleepyhead yet cause I haven't bought an sd card reader, but hubby says I never moved and was silent so HE slept better than he has in years also!

I had no trouble with the mask/leaks except when I rolled over and that was easy to adjust. Got up for bathroom once and took about an hour to fall back asleep using ramp, that was the discrepancy in hours in bed vs hours slept. Honestly, I tried to go back to sleep because 8 hrs has never been enough for me but my body wouldn't have it. The longer I laid there I could feel a headache creeping in, so I got up and did some housework, made a healthy snack and jumped on here! Hey you! It's before noon and Im awake! 4+ hours before I have to be to work - Unheard of!

I can't even begin to share the elation - I'm overjoyed at such an immediate and wonderful response. And I feel stupid for resisting treatment for so long.

Congratulations on successfully passing the first night hurdle. Sounds like you passed it in flying colors for which I am pea green with envy. Good job.

If your computer has a slot for the SD card already you don't need a card reader and most of the new computers have one. If not and you need a card reader while waiting for it there is some information available on the machine's LCD screen. Do you know how to access that information?

Go figure - I can walk while chewing gum but apparently I can't quite grasp breathing while sleeping.

Congratulations on a great first night, Rabbit!! That is AWESOME

Don't kick yourself too hard for "resisting treatment for so long;" try to remember, our thoughts (mind) have to be in line with our physical spirit for successful treatment.

Happy Thanksgiving to you, and everyone here!

I looked into the info on the machine but my book shows options that are not on the screen. Large Leak, AHI, Periodic Breathing, 90% pressure are all missing from the info list.

I ordered an sd card reader today from amazon.

You need to go into the clinical setup menu and make a little change so that the therapy data is available to you. The setting you need to change is "Show AHI"...the default from the factory is Off...you need to change it to ON.

You might want to request the clinical/provider manual as it will have some additional information not available with the manual that came with the machine along with how to get to the clinical setup menu.
You can request it here. Follow the instructions at the bottom of the page. Make sure you request the corret one.
http://www.apneaboard.com/adjust-cpap-p ... tup-manual

I forget which machine you have but also on that page are the quick setup instructions for how to get to the clinical setup menu for a lot of machines...find yours and click on it for the quick abbreviated version.

If you are unsure of the exact model...tell us the 3 digit model number on the bottom of the blower.
You are showing a 60 series humidifier but the machine isn't showing up in your equipment profile.
Perhaps you chose the wrong one or the link is broken.
Must be model 460 or higher to have useful data available.

Second night was just as refreshing! Had a little trouble adjusting the mask and falling asleep, I wasn't quite as tired as I was the night before. But once I was out, that was it! Fitbit recorded 8 hrs of sleep, with 2hrs deep sleep and 2hrs REM. I requested the clinical manuals to get more info out of my machine.

I started with ramp on the first night, but second night it felt like I wasn't getting enough air so I turned it off. Also learned that 8 hours using the humidifier only used half of the water so I won't need to fill it to max every night. Hubby didn't sleep worth a darn last night but he said it wasn't because of me - small victories LOL. He did stay in our bed all night so atleast I didn't chase him off by snoring, talking, and moving around.

Potential snag coming. We are driving overnight from KS to DC on Friday so I will be snoozing in the car with no pappy. Once there I will be able to use it, then again Monday overnight drive to come home. Does anyone know if it is safe to use a car cigarette lighter socket adapter to power my cpap? I don't want to hurt it!

Happy Thanksgiving! This year I am grateful for sleep!

The pr system one machines are 12V so a lighter adapter will operate it just fine, if you have one that will plug into the cpap.
you can also use a small inverter to power it with 110v. if you have one.
If you're not part of the solution you're just scumming up the bottom of the beaker!

Get the Clinicians manual here : http://apneaboard.com/adjust-cpap-press ... tup-manual

Check for a DC power cord 60 series. That works fine without humidifier.

It might be best to "go dry" in the car. (No humidity, less power or splash risk)
You can detach the humidifier, to avoid changing settings.

My first night with CPAP was similar to yours. I suspected for a very long time that I might have OSA, but also read a lot of information where CPAP had not been successful. Between living in very rural areas where the nearest sleep lab was over 2 hours away, and working night shift, I did not pursue CPAP as I thought I would just be wasting lots of time and money. It wasn't until I actually fell asleep at my desk while working, and caught by my boss, that I made an appointment with a physician about my chronic fatigue. I've been on CPAP for almost 4 months now. I manage to hold down two jobs, and have not once felt tired during even the most boring of meetings.

Night three. .. I'm the poster child for cpap. Made myself sleep extra since tonight is our overnight drive to DC. Was considering trying the Dreamwear mask.... but. ... look at these numbers. Honestly is working so well I'm afraid to change anything, even though the Dreamwear looks far less cumbersome. ImageImageImageImageImage

Ps i got a plug in for the car and will not be using the humidifier.
