Early Christmas present from my insurance and Apria!

Post by tuzacat » Wed Nov 25, 2015 11:20 am

Usually, I get a notification from my insurance company that Apria has billed them and they have paid their part of the ASV rental for the month. Shortly after I get a bill from Apria for my copay. This month I got neither. Hmm....In the past, a couple of times, Apria neglected to send me a bill and then sent me a late notice so I figured I'd better call and see what was up. I was hoping that my rental period was over and that we were going into maintenance billing which is, basically, twice a year I pay a copay and it covers repairs. This was because my insurance company did not want to pay for the rest of the machine. This has happened twice - first on my cpap and then on my bipap - each time after a year and a bit - maintenance billing. When I needed a different machine I had to turn it in and start the cycle all over again.

When I called Apria today the first present was I didn't have to wait on hold to talk to someone, I got right through. The second present - the woman said I OWN THE ASV MACHINE! Really? This has never happened before! She double checked and said it was my company's policy for the BipapASV but not for the other machines I had. Weird, but I'll take it! I was paying $70 a month. My next question was what would I do if I needed a repair and she said I could still call them (of course, I don't know how much they would charge me but I have never needed a repair yet). WOOT! WOOT!

Congratulations you machine owner you! And with that extra $70 just lying around, well, I've been eyeing a new pair of New Balance sneakers, I'll forward you the details so you can surprise me at Christmas.

Go figure - I can walk while chewing gum but apparently I can't quite grasp breathing while sleeping.

Very cute, SleepyCarey! Thanks for making me laugh out loud! I was so excited not to have that monthly bill I had to share - who else but the people in this forum would understand?

Congratulations. This is the first post I have seen that didn't say something bad about Apria. V

I know, Okie, they were driving me crazy for a while. I ordered less often than I wanted to because dealing with them was such a pain. I'd wait for 45 minutes to get a person and then they'd tell me they would have to recertify me in the middle of the year to prove I had insurance. But they have done some revamping lately and when I order supplies it is much more efficient - the wait time on the phone has been minimal and so far they haven't had to recertify me.

It is refreshing to hear that there are still decent people at some locations.

If Apria said the sun was up, I'd go out and check for myself.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

Sir Nod, that's probably a good idea - I'll give them a call next week. Hope I'll be celebrating then!

Maintenance billing? I don't have that. First time I've heard of it in the cpap world. I've been on CPAP for nearly 3 years now, my last monthly payment was in May 2014. Since then I've received one letter from DME reminding me of the replacement interval schedule, and no other communication has been initiated by them. I have my DME at the Mayo Clinic, operated by Mayo Solutions.. or some such name as a branch of Mayo's service outreach.
