Hose falling off at night, leaky mask

Post by diaperjoys » Mon Nov 23, 2015 10:13 am

Hi! I'm a newbie to this forum, looking for some ideas for my cpap setup. I use the ResMed S9 Elite with climatecontrol hose, and a Quattro Mirage full face mask. I've been using the CPAP for about 3 years, and I'm starting to have some troubles. The hose is falling off during the night - slips off the spot where it attaches to the mask. And I feel like the cushion has to be strapped on tighter to get a decent seal. I always sleep on my side, and lately I've found that I have to try to hold the mask against in order to maintain a seal that doesn't "whoosh".

For mask care I've been wiping it out nightly with a baby wipe, and then periodically do a soak/scrub in the sink. The seal I remove and boil every so often, which helps. I just don't remember having to fuss with it so much during sleep, and I'm thinking it might be time to replace some parts. (All about 3 years old) Not sure which parts it would be necessary to replace. I'll be paying cash for the parts, so I want to do it right, yet not purchase anything unnecessary.

Advice??

Thanks!

Have you lost weight? Sounds like it could account for some of the problem, if not the hose connection, but you can get parts replaced on Cpap.com without having to buy the whole set up.

Hello djoy,
You have the same setup as I started with. My hose started slipping off during the night too, I would always get a new hose until I started wrapping masking tape around it where it joined the mask, walla, no more problems. On your mask cushion, it wouldn't hurt to boil it, that should clean it up some. A teaspoon of baking soda in a pot of water and let your cushion boil, (I always boil mine for 10 minutes). After boiling rinse with tap water till cool, it should be clear as a new one and function as new...best of luck...

The poster said that she DOES boil the cushion.....It's 3 years old. I think it may be time for a replacement.

Is the long hose coming loose where it attaches to the elbow swivel?
This piece here?
https://www.cpap.com/productpage/resmed ... wivel.html
I have had that happen with my ClimateLine hose with some masks as it just is hard to get it snug enough sometimes.
You could order a new one but first you might try putting something around the end of that little swivel where it goes into the long hose to increase the circumference and that might make it snug enough to not slip off so easily. Maybe a few layers of some sort of tape with a bit of grip to the outside.

Or is the elbow itself coming loose from the mask itself?
This appears to be for both pieces. $10 with free shipping.

3 years on the same cushion...probably wouldn't hurt to get a new cushion
If you check EBay I think you will find a replacement cushion not horribly expensive.
I just saw a cushion only in size medium for $23 with free shipping with a Buy it Now pricing
or there are some auctions that are trending less if you want to watch an auction.

The Mirage requires an adapter for the hose end so it will fit the mask. Did you change to a new hose and forget to move the adapter?

Thank you for all the suggestions. I hadn't thought to try ebay for a cushion! I think I'll try a new cushion, and then add some tape to the hose connection to see if I can get that to fit more snug. Thank you so much for the help!

When I started having more leaks, I got new headgear as it seemed like that was getting stretched out and tightening wasn't helping. So maybe it's headgear for leaks.
