DreamWear mask: burning sensation

Post by Trench » Fri Nov 20, 2015 10:48 pm

Hi,

After trying a few masks, I'm liking the DreamWear...but after a few minutes I get a burning sensation, like a sensitivity to the material or an allergic reaction. I did try the humidifier at max level -- it didn't help.

Using an AirSense 10 Autoset.

Where is the burning sensation located?
Up inside your nose?
Where the mask touches your face?
Did you wash it really well prior to using it the first time?

I have a dreamware mask ... no burning sensation here. Maybe you are allergic to the material? Probably unlikely or else Resp would not use that material.

It's where the mask touches my face, not inside the nose. I rubbed it down with CPAP Mask Wipes a couple of times.

Maybe try a mild soap and water wash with a good rinse afterwards instead of wipes. Are you applying any lotions to your skin before putting on the mask? I doubt that the mask is having an allergic reaction with your skin that fast, ie. almost instantaneous. Maybe if your mask is too tight it could be causing the early formation of pressure sores, the first step of which could be a burning sensation as the skin gets irritated. Sometimes it's just a psychological reaction to having something foreign on ones face.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

I just did a wash -- which I'm embarrassed to say I didn't think of, washing it -- and already I'm not detecting the awful chemically smell it had. Maybe it will be better tonight! Thank you for the suggestion.

The fit is comfortable, much better to me than the pillow type. But after 15 minutes, it becomes uncomfortable -- not the fit, but where it's touching my nose. Like, my nose area becomes sensitive. Guess I have to return it.

Have you tried Lansinoh on the area? It might help make the area be less sensitive. My skin became red and stinging with my N10 and once I got the area healed it no longer bothered me. I also did not wash my mask before use and wondered if it would have not caused the irritation if I had.
