Just started CPAP and now I need naps

Post by Punkador » Sun Jun 17, 2018 6:49 pm

I just started using my ResMed machine this last week and everyday I end up needing a 2 hour nap. Sometimes I need a nap just an hour after waking up. My sleep test AHI was 80 and with the CPAP I’m down to between 5-10. Before using CPAP, I’d sleep for 5-6 hours and wake up ready for the day. What in the world is going on?

Sometimes it takes a few nights for our mind and body to adjust to the new alien thing laying on our face while sleeping. It sounds like your therapy is not as good as it could be. Most of us try for an AHI of less than two.

So how many hours of sleep with cpap are you actually getting?
And how many wake ups do you remember having during those hours you are using the cpap?

I’m getting between 6 1/2 and 8 1/2 hours a night and wake up 2x at most. I have no problems with the mask itself and amazingly have had very little issue. I do think I need more pressure to lower the AHI but having been a lifelong mouth breather I think I’m doing pretty well. I was just wondering if this is part of the sleep deficit I’ve been told I need to make up?

Which ResMed machine model are you using?
Is your leak rate within acceptable limits?

What does the label on your machine say?

In the first post you said you have a ResMed machine. The Dreamstation series is manufactured by one of ResMed's competitors.

I was wrong. It’s the DreamStation Auto CPAP with Humidifier & Heated Tubing. It says dreamstation on the front so I looked it up.

then you've got the wrong thing picked in your equipment list for your profile. pick the one that says "dreamstation AUTO"

You picked the BiPap Auto. Do you have BiPap or the Auto Cpap listed right above the one you chose?

We all were at one point or another ;)

And you got it *almost* right, but I don't think you have the bipap model.
