Getting a temporary CPAP machine

Post by davep700 » Tue Oct 13, 2015 5:32 pm

Hello. I am really suffering and I found that I have to wait about 2.5 weeks to receive my CPAP machine, due to coordination with the insurance company.

In the meantime out of desperation, I thought about getting an inexpensive travel size unit as well for about $200, such as the Curasa https://www.cpap.com/productpage/curati ... -data.html or the XT Fit https://www.cpap.com/productpage/apex-x ... chine.html

What do you think? I could use it in the future when I"m sleeping somewhere other than home. I would have to get a prescription though, and additionally a mask.

Why not call your insurance company and see if they can expedite your order. You may find that it is the doctor or DME that is holding things up.

Having a back-up or travel unit is a good idea. Might make sense to get one that fits the headgear and hose for your regular machine though - and you might find one cheaper on CraigsList.

You might want to check http://www.secondwindcpap.com for a lightly used one like Philips/Respironics or ResMed.

I would suggest a fully data-capable one.......like a Pro, Elite, Auto or Autoset from those manufacturers.
Avoid models with the name "Plus" or "Escape" in the model name.
P/R has an exhale feature called "C-Flex Plus", which is OK. It's the model name "Plus" you want to avoid.

.
(5) REMstar Autos w/C-Flex & (6) REMstar Pro 2 CPAPs w/C-Flex - Pressure Setting = 14 cm.
"Passover" Humidification - ResMed Ultra Mirage FF - Encore Pro w/Card Reader & MyEncore software - Chiroflow pillow

Just a suggestion, but never accept what they tell you regarding time. I got the same quotes and ended up getting a machine the same day.
Has your prescription been sent to your machine source?
Find out who is responsible for getting it into the system and explain to them how important it is.
Call your insurance company. Mine has a policy (they love those) that a regular request for coverage will be handled in 5 days or a rush in 2 days. I told them I was told it would take two+ weeks for approval and they ask me for the phone number of the DME. They called them directly while I was on hold. Approval done.

Nothing is fixed in stone, be nice and explain what's going on, you may be surprised.
Sleeping MUCH better now
