Question about DME

Post by CaptainRaven40 » Mon Oct 12, 2015 9:41 am

I have a DME that I have been working with and got my machine through and they lied to me about a couple of things that I figured out after the fact. I was wondering if it is possible for me to work with another DME about my replacements such as my mask, filters, cushions, tubing, etc. or do I have to continue working with them? I do have medicare insurance so I am not paying out of pocket for replacements. I am sorry if this has been asked and covered before, but I couldn't find anything in the search.

Yes, you can use another DME for masks and other replacement supplies. You aren't tied to the DME that dispensed the machine.
You need to figure out who in your area works with Medicare patients and get with them.
They likely will need a copy of some paperwork and RX to get you going but all of that should be available from your doctor.

You can go here and plug in your zip code to find a DME that works with Medicare in your area
https://www.medicare.gov/SupplierDirectory/
Then call to make sure (sometimes that directory is out of date) and explain the situation and tell them what you want.

When you find a DME that you want to work with, they will require a copy of your original sleep study and a current prescription. I would go back to your original DME and tell them why you are switching.
