Figuring Out Dry Mouth

Post by seeing you » Sat Oct 10, 2015 11:53 am

I am trying to figure out with face mask covering nose and mouth why I still end up with dry mouth. Is it that I have not enough moisture or too much temp on tube. Seems when I am mouth breathing out that air in mask seems much hotter and wakes me up. At times my dry mouth wakes me up still playing with moisture and tube temp am I going in right direction to correct this problem ?

If the tweaking of your heat and humidity doesn't give you relief, try this Orajel Dry Mouth Moisturizer Gel:

I think Amazon sells it too. I like the mildly minty taste and a tube lasts me about a month. You'll have to train yourself not to swallow it but that's pretty easy. Also, be sure you don't buy the Orajel cold sore gel with similar packaging or you'll numb your whole mouth! I'd avoid the Biotene product... it doesn't seem very effective and wears off too soon.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

"Mouth breathing" regardless of whatever mask you're using can/will cause "dry mouth".
Too much warm humid air can exacerbate nasal congestion, which will result in mouth breathing which will result in "dry mouth".
If you're not already doing nasal cleansing before bedtime, try that. You need to be able to breathe through your nose to alleviate or minimize mouth breathing.
You may also try turning off the heated humidity (and any heated hose settings) to get cooler air through your nasal passages to keep them open......leaving water in the HH chamber, that's called "passover" humidification.
If it ends up being too cool, try pulling the hose under the covers next to your body to warm it just a little.

Your problem is extremely common to users. I turned off my HH altogether a couple nights after I started therapy and have used "passover" humidification year-round for about 10 1/2 years.

Thanks for your help I am cutting the tube temp down again tonight and like you said may have to cut it off all the way seems like each of us is different and it is a learning experience as we go. I know it is helping me, now to try and figure out how to keep mouth from drying out and I will be very happy. Thanks again . Larry

Along with the other stuff, if you CAN breathe through your nose, try training your tongue to stay/stick to the roof of your mouth. "Pucker".......sort of like pretending you're sucking on a lemon drop or something.
