Sleep Apnea-Irregular Heartbeat/BP corelation
Sleep Apnea-Irregular Heartbeat/BP corelation
Is there a correlation to Sleep Apnea and irregular heart beats/ BP. Although I am physically fit and do regular exercise but my BP readings always fluctuate every readings even if it's taken after two minutes interval. Can anyone explain this. I have been using CPAP for three weeks now with AHi readings of 0.6 average. I am 40 years old. Has sleep Apnea affected my heart performance and is it reversable.

BP and Pulse rates can change in a matter of seconds. Standing and sitting, left arm or right arm all account for different readings. If anything, CPAP use is good for your heart. By eliminating the apneas, where you stop breathing for short periods of time, you are increasing the oxygen flow to your heart.

Readings are quite different. One reading says 122/55 other says 145/70 in a interval is 5 minutes. Sometimes pulse is 60 beats per minute and sometimes it goes to 120 per minute. These huge variations worry me. I think this untreated apnea has done some damage. Hope this CPAP use helps to overcome the damage done.LSAT wrote:BP and Pulse rates can change in a matter of seconds. Standing and sitting, left arm or right arm all account for different readings. Atrial fibrillation is fairly common with OSA, though supposedly improves to some extent (don't know the percentage) on Cpap.

My experience with all the above leads me to agreement with the belief that cpap is of great benefit. I have been on cpap for 11 years now and I am sure I would be dead if I hadn't used cpap.

Agree with LSAT. Also if you are measuring with an electronic machine an irregular heartbeat may cause the varying pressures. Some irregularities produce strong beats mixed with beats that are weaker and may not be picked up by the machine. A manual pressure may be more accurate.
CPAP helps by providing more oxygen to all your organs at night.

AFib is why I'm on a BiPap. It has saved my life. With the BiPap I no longer have symptoms.Julie wrote:Atrial fibrillation is fairly common with OSA, though supposedly improves to some extent (don't know the percentage) on Cpap.

Do you suggest Bipap over CPAP to overcome this issue. I am 40 years old.spmccord wrote:AFib is why I'm on a BiPap. It has saved my life. Re: Sleep Apnea-Irregular Heartbeat/BP corelation
First of all, you're confusing BP with arrythmias, which are not the same thing. You can have a high (or low) BP but no arrythmia and vice versa, and if your doctor thought you needed a different machine - based on your subjective speculation - he'd have prescribed one. Stop looking for trouble!
