Sleepyhead/ S9 problem

Post by FreeIndeed » Fri Oct 09, 2015 8:02 pm

Hi there! I'm fighting leaks (again) and went to examine my data and found the dreaded NO DATA on Sleepyhead. I always write protect my SD card now and am on the same computer. The card must have been in the machine all the way, because I have summary data. What else could be messing it up? If you have any clues, please let me know!

I was looking at the files on the SD card, thinking maybe I forgot to lock the card and there was a file that the S9 didn't like and I ran across a folder that was corrupted. So I re-formatted the disk and tried again to see if I could get all of the data. Still nothing! I get a few summary data and none of the rest. I have the latest version of sleepyhead too. Now I'm even more stumped.
Is there a setting in the S9 that tells it to store only summary data? My card should be good and my Sleepyhead software os good, so it seems like it must be a problem with the S9. Any ideas?

No, there is no such setting at least that that you can alter....it's just the way the S9 does things.
It only stores summary data on its internal memory so if the SD card isn't in the machine or you wipe the SD card....or get a new card....the only thing the S9 can put on the SD card is that summary data.

You should be able to get detailed data now though if the S9 is happy with the card when you put the card in the S9 (no invalid card messages) and you leave the SD card in the machine all night.

Now if the S9 is happy with the SD card and the card is in the machine all night and you still have no detailed data then there may be a problem within the S9 itself in terms of writing detailed data to the SD card but usually when that happens you get nothing at all....not even summary data.

Thank you for the reply Pugsy. I wiped the card and put it back in the S9 and turned it on. It didn't have any error messages. I left it in and ran it for two nights and then powered the machine down and removed the card. Loaded it into Sleepyhead and I still have some basic data, but no detailed stuff. I guess I could try buying a new SD card.... this is all I get now:

How soon after stopping the machine in the AM are you powering down? If you power down too soon the machine can't correctly close the files that are written during the night and that's an important part of the final process so we get full detailed data.
I assume you mean turning it totally off????
That might explain the lack of data from last night but it wouldn't explain it from the night before unless you also maybe powered it down as part of a morning routine.

Why are you powering down? These machines normally will run for 30 to 45 minutes at low level pressure to dry out the hose. Then they will "shut down" themselves or go to what amounts to "stand by mode" so that it is ready when you put the mask on. There's no need to totally power down the machine..ever...unless you have known sporadic daytime power surge issues.

Contrary to what the manual says...you don't have to totally power down the machine before removing the SD card.

For tonight...insert the SD card into the machine slot and watch the LCD display for the machine to recognize the card...it will be brief.
Don't touch the card.
Tomorrow morning when you get up you can stop the blower but don't do anything in terms of powering down for about 30 minutes....then pull the SD card and see if you have detailed data.
If you still don't....get a new SD card ....and repeat the steps. If you still don't have detailed data by then there's likely something going on in the machine but while it isn't impossible....it is extremely rare.

Oh Pugsy, you are a genius. We have a 2 month old baby and she's been sleeping in our room. I didn't want The light from the S9 in the morning to wake her, so I was powering the S9 all the way down to get the lights to turn off. Every morning.

So this morning I did as you said and just clicked it once to stop and left the card in for 30 minutes. Just checked it and I have all data. Thanks so much!! I don't know if I ever would have figured that out on my own. Now I have to start figuring out how to get rid of my large leaks and I'll be back in decent sleep again!

Ahhh...a baby in the room. Throw a towel or something over the lights.
I don't think you need 30 minutes...that was just a real conservative number...with my Respironics machines I could see the "writing to SD card" message when the machine was turned off but I have never seen it with my S9 to get an idea how long it takes. Probably 5 minutes is more than enough but I just don't want to risk it because there is no going back if you pull the card too soon or power off the machine too soon.

Glad that mystery is sorted out.

The leak battle ....That's a war we never totally win.
