Emotional after using CPAP

Post by Marie13 » Tue Oct 06, 2015 7:32 pm

I'm a real newbie... Only 3 nights in. I have no anxiety or emotions about the mask or the therapy. However, the last two days I have been very emotional. I broke down in tears making dinner tonight for no apparent reason. Thoughts??? Is there a connection to the CPAP therapy?

Hmm... Interesting. I've never had that problem, but here is a search on the forum for people talking about that: search.php?keywords=%2Bemotions++%2Bemo ... ut+loud%22, and here is a Google search on the same subject: https://www.google.com/search?q=cpap+OR ... ut+loud%22. Looks like it's a real thing. I can imagine how that'd be so. Good luck.

I was easily emotional when I was so sleep deprived, but not after using CPAP. Except when the doc put me on Provigil. Had an episode of almost breakdown level sobbing, and when I looked in the mirror at me crying, I started hysterically laughing. Was the weirdest thing. Doc reduced my dose and it didn't happen again.

Your body is making some major changes... to the better. Keep up the good work! Give your body time to adjust.

I get a bit emotional when I think of all the years of restless nights I SHOULD have been getting good sleep.
When my thoughts come to the HMO that denied me treatment by faking my first sleep study--over 20 years ago--
I could just sprout venom glands!

How did they fake the study?

The "study" was two hours in the middle of the day; they injected drugs to knock me out,
and ran an EEG while I was unconscious. No sensors for breath, or for breathing effort, etc.
They told me I did not have apnea, but I suffered for another 19 years until I was diagnosed FOR REAL.
Another HMO prescribed an ASTHMA INHALER for PNEUMONIA. It did not help, but delayed the right treatment.
As you may have guessed, I have a very large problem with HMO's.

Pet peeve: People are giving you answers without knowing how well or how poorly your CPAP therapy is.

I think it could be a normal reaction to change. It could also be an outlet for feelings of relief. It could also be that you are finally getting good enough sleep to be able to process emotions. I think when you are sleep deprived, emotional health suffers as well. I would suggest that if it continues or causes you stress that you talk to a counselor or therapist. No shame or harm in finding a healthy way of processing emotions.

Best Wishes!

I agree she should optimize her therapy as well.

Without using software, it would be hard to have the needed suggestions, with only 3 days in, you wouldn't have much to go by. Also how her xpap is set up info is needed. Jim
