Sleep Apnea/snoring

Post by p_rags55 » Tue Oct 06, 2015 4:36 am

Dear All,
Why do we have to consult a sleep specialist doctor if we have an automated CPAP? They have a tendency to call you often and charge exorbitant amounts. In fact one wanted me to procure a manual one so that visits could be regular.
I have a S 9 Resmed Autoset machine which pretty good. N10 Resmed nasal mask. I am maintaining min pressure 5 and max 17. AHI has come down below 2 with an odd reading at 5.8. Since I am new to the forum and as a CPAP machine advice solicited.
Regards
Rags

Most of us with auto machines do not depend on physicians for sleep advice,,,we do it ourselves. Personally, I have not seen my sleep doctor since I got my machine 8 years ago. When I wanted a new machine I had my PCP write the prescription. I have a local DME that keeps my prescription on file and supplies me with any supplies that I need.

I haven't seen mine in about 3 years.

If you have Medicare, I believe you have to go once per year.

Darned if I know........
Could be they see you as a source of income for them.
I cut my sleep doctor loose after a couple of visits after I started therapy.
As long as you have a data-capable machine and the software, you can figure this out for yourself and optimize your own therapy.
Your minimum pressure may be too low and your pressure range may be too wide.
