Mystery check mark

Post by So Sincere » Tue Oct 06, 2015 4:10 am

Just now, a few minutes after putting on the mask, turning off my reading light, and having my BiPAP auto start, the LCD lit up, displaying a large check mark but no text. It went away after 30 seconds or so. Has anyone seen this before? I have a Respironics BiPAP autoSV Advanced unit with humidifier; Nuance Pro headgear. I can't find any reference to this online.

How long have you been using the machine?

Did it do this just one time? If so, you probably hit the "ramp" button and it did the "mask check" function. Try doing that deliberately and see if it repeats.

Reviewing the documentation on the Respironics ASV, I can't find reference to the Ramp button and Mask Fit Check.
OTOH for a different model, the 560, I do find the following:
Ramp Button
When the airflow is on, this button allows you to activate or restart the ramp function. When the airflow is off, this button allows you to activate the Mask Fit Check. This button lights up when therapy is active or during specific alerts.
So it is likely that this function remains in the ASV series as archangle suggests and that is what happened.

archangle, I've been using this unit for a few years now and have used the ramp button before but had never seen it do this. I got an email from the respiratory therapist this morning. She said it was most likely due to her getting the first download from the modem that was recently attached to it. I'm guessing this was the first time I had turned the unit on after the modem did it's thing. Apparently, this check-mark "feature" isn't documented or intuitive. Oh, and it had been several minutes since I had last played with the buttons. I had rolled over and was about to go to sleep when the display lit up. If I had accidentally pressed the ramp button, I doubt the unit would have waited so long to respond.
