yes you will need the tubing for climate control.....but do as i did first try the auto function and see if it is ok for you...the supplies are just begining to flow my machine came with the heated tubing...good luck

If your ambient humidity in your bedroom is quite high then the machine may simply not need to add more moisture to the air so it won't need to use much water (if any). Have you done a brief warm up (15 minutes) and checked to see if the bottom of the water chamber is even warm? BTW these machines ...
