Dealing with bad nights... energy supplements?

Post by mike1949 » Mon Oct 05, 2015 4:50 pm

Occasionally I'll have a bad night (or two or three..) and the next day is terrible. Caffeine often isn't enough to give me a clear head.

I've also tried modafinil, which works great to give me sustained energy and a clear head IF I have a good nights sleep, but I don't find it effective if I haven't slept well.

Has anyone had any success with other supplements (prescribed or otc) to help them through the day?

Over the years, I tried many things. Nothing works like a good night's sleep.

Caffeine may be part of the problem...What do you mean by "bad nights"? Try to eliminate caffeine and soft drinks. Have you tried OTC Melatonin? Consult with your doctor or pharmacist.

What's a bad night?

I have terrible sleep problems - OSA being only one of them. Many of them result from life-style choices I make, including caffeine and when I think my bed-time is. I'm slowly adjusting and experimenting with those and finding out how to get better rest in the bed. I have to be really careful with coffee. I mostly mainlined it all day and evening to stay awake for years, but I'm finding that I can't really have more than 2 cups, and they both have to be before lunch or I'm awake at night.

If your bad night is from the CPAP, I can relate to that too. I haven't found anything that works at good as getting 7+ hours on the machine.
