Super Glue or Baseball Bat?

Post by bwexler » Sun Oct 04, 2015 2:20 pm

Well we moved into my brother in laws home to help with his forgetfulness.
He uses his CPAP mask anywhere from 1 to 8 hours per night with AHI between 2 and 29.
Which of the above methods is best to encourage compliance?
BIL has COPD, heart failure, AFIB, and Sleep Apnea. He has a PRS1 560 and Wisp mask.
I have developed a relationship with his sleep doc as well as several others.

Kudos for being willing to step up and help. My brother has OSA but refuses to do anything about it and after nearly starting World War III about it I just had to step back and leave him alone. The baseball bat didn't work with my brother no matter how hard I swung it .

Any idea why he might only be using the machine 1 hour? Like does he take the mask off and not realize it?
Also...is there a relationship between hours of use and that AHI? Like low AHI when low hours of use and high AHI when more suitable hours of use is accomplished?
Also...what is the event category breakdown with the high AHI times?

Bless you for taking that on.
Make sure you have time for yourselves organized and that you investigate and take advantage off all the organizations out there that will help.
Our local Alzheimer association puts on workshops where they teach coping techniques and help you understand what is happening. I strongly recommend this because it gives you insight on how they think and are motivated which may not make any sense to you at all.

What ever one works for him and you - right now. Which may be not the one which will work next month.....

ETA: "Super Glue or Baseball Bat?" either will get you into trouble with an endless parade of social workers who all seem to be pregnant and about to go on mat leave before they solve your problem and leave you "holding the baby"

He seems to be fully aware that he is taking it off. "He is not convinced it really works, Or OSA is dangerous, or that he has it". His sleep study AHI was only 33.

Last Tuesday 7 hous 46 minutes AHI 2.96 H=.51 O=1.41 C=1.03
Last Saturday 5 hours 30 minutes AHI 2.72. H=2.63 O=.54 C=.54
The previous Friday 4 hours 37 minutes AHI 23.54. H=13.17 O= 6.69 C=3.67
3 hours 45 minutes AHI=0.79 H=0.53 O=.26 C=0.0
Also...what is the event category breakdown with the high AHI times?
