Yes. Lots of people have had that problem. If you're taking the blood pressure medication "Lisinopril", that can do it and it's a known dry-cough contributor. It's an "ACE" inhibitor category medication. I can speak from experience in this situation.
If you ARE taking it, contact your doctor to have them switch you to an "ARB" (angiotensin receptor blocker) medication like Diovan/Valsartan or Cozaar/Losartan. Over the years, I've used both of them, and........no more cough.

I have cough variant asthma so I cough all day when I have an asthma exacerbation (like now). At night, with CPAP on, I don't cough very much at all (thank goodness). I wear a FF mask when I'm having issues.

I find it very hard to cough in a nasal mask because you usually take a big intake of air through the mouth when winding up to cough. It's not all that easy in a FF mask either (because coughing doesn't necessarily match the rhythm of the machine) but it is easier.

I also find that a big cough will blow the filter right out of the slot! I have an elastic hairband over the filter to keep it from popping out.

Cough. Why not?

Are you talking about a chronic cough?

If your cough is chronic, do you have any idea what is causing it? Here are some possible causes - http://www.mayoclinic.org/symptoms/coug ... m-20050846

Cough syrup is a good idea... but it's not perfect. I recently had a bad cough and there was still some coughing into my FF mask in spite of the medicine. I just starting cleaning the mask and frame with extra diligence daily until my cold was gone and then returned to my normal regimen.

Please post a little more about your question.

Are you asking if the cpap is causing your cough?
Are you dealing with a cold and asking how to use your cpap?
Do you have a chronic cough that needs improvement?

A few years ago, I had a really bad cough and the doctor had no idea why. She prescribed cough syrup that did help and allowed me to sleep with my cpap. After two bottles, she switched me to a pill that worked even better and didn't taste nasty. After several months, *I* came up with the cause, and was able to stop the cough and prevent it from returning. Huge improvement.

Later, I switched doctors, and she told me that aside from colds, and serious illness; most coughs are due to 4 things - asthma, allergies, post nasal drip, and gerd. I have all 4.

A few months ago, I had a bad cold with a nasty cough for several days. The kind where you get a spasm that doesn't stop right away, almost like whooping cough. It leaves you gasping for air. That kind of cough is really hard to deal with inside a full face mask if you don't have enough air pressure. I knew that once I got to sleep, the humidifier would actually help my cough. But I had to get past those coughing spasms long enough to let the humidifier work. I figured out that my starting pressure of 11 just wasn't enough pressure to get me throug the coughing spasm. I would gasp for air and rip off the mask., But when I raised the minimum to 13, I could cough inside the mask and not gasp for air. I could get through the spasms with the mask still on and fall asleep. And then I slept great.

Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?

When I get an itch in the back of my throat with mask on, and want to cough, I learned to cough with my mouth closed early on with cpap use. Sounds odd, but it works for me...stops the itching, and I don't get that annoying noise and feeling from having a lot of air rushing out my open mouth.

I was getting an itch in the back of my throat from cpap that made me want to cough. I did some investigating and somehow my humidity was turned off. I put it back to 2 and the need to cough went away. May try fiddling with your humidity settings to make sure you're getting enough moisture in that air.
