Cool air search
Cool air search
Looking to get a CPAP machine/solution that brings cool fresh air for me to breathe.
I hate breathing and rebreathing my own hot humid air ( feel with my machine like i am in the tropical jungle and am looking for the cool fresh air of a cool fall night).
Have turned the room air to 60 degrees , use a fan blowing on me, wrapped the tubing in an insulated sleeve etc.
I understand the issue of "rainout" and the science of "warm air and cool air mixing", but when i'm outside at night in the cool air this is not a factor so it seems to me this could be fixed inside my machine.
Also babies with croup are treated with cool moist air to get better, why can't adults have a machine that creates that environment?
Any others have this issue or any suggestions or company to contact for help?
Thanks.....Coolair Search

Re: Cool air search
You have not mentioned if you tried not using a humidifier and using an electric hose which will dry up the moisture in the hose. I did not feel hot air, just not humid.
What type of mask/nasal apparatus are you using that has issues.
The machine take air from the room.
Cooling air would require a condenser which removes moisture as well. Not that I recommend this, I do not see how the air would get cool unless ice is put in the humidifier making the air passing over the ice colder. Not sure if the air would cool enough for such a short pass over the ice. I would suspect it would feel clammy on the nose as it would be cold and wet.
I like the heated tube which dries the moisture, it does not feel hot.
Edited, so that some would not interpert the post as putting ice in tube.

Re: Cool air search
What machine do you have? Does it have a heated hose? Reason I ask is because some machines allow you to set the temperature of the hose, down to 60F, so you can breathe in cool air. I can't stand breathing warm air myself which is one of the reasons I decided to purchase a machine with a heated hose with a hose temp setting. It's the ResMed AirSense 10 AutoSet. (Alas, I haven't yet used the machine, I just got it this week and I'm waiting to receive an SD card for it before I use it.)
So depending on what machine you have you may be able to set the hose to a cooler temp.

Go figure - I can walk while chewing gum but apparently I can't quite grasp breathing while sleeping.

Do you have all of the "heat" components/settings turned "OFF"? You haven't stated which machine you're using or what your settings are.coolair search wrote:Looking to get a CPAP machine/solution that brings cool fresh air for me to breathe.

I've been using cool, "passover" humidification since shortly after I started therapy over 10 years ago. I just put distilled water in my HH tank and don't turn on the heat, year round. I usually route the hose under my covers so it doesn't get too cold.

I too like it cool, but the warm moist air you feel comes from inside you, if you turn the HH off and lower the room temp.
One question, how do you live in the real world in the day time, I require a/c, but using XPAP, requires a mask on the face, that holds the exhaled moisture from the lungs in for a while some gets rebreathed. Jim

Re: Cool air search
Again, what mask/machine are you using?
It makes a HUGE difference, especially the mask.
Nasal pillows feel the coolest, while the total face mask feels very warm to me.
---Warm enough to make me feel very confined.
Warm air inside my nose is fine--outside not so much.
I have used a Sleepweaver Elan mask, which is the coolest feeling non-pillows mask for me.
Circadiance also has a full face mask, but fabric masks are a challenge to use.
If you can master it, the result is sublime.

Re: Cool air search
I use my humidifier with the humidifier setting at 0 so that the air is at room temperature but passes over the water. Sometimes in the winter I do turn the setting up to provide additional warmth for sleeping if I am chilly. I think that's really all you can do short of using ice cubes, as has been mentioned. Perhaps someone knows another way.

Now using AirFit F10 mask; Quattro Air is backup mask. RemZzzz mask liners with both.
Re: Cool air search
I have a Resmed Airsense 10 with the adjustable hose temp but it is not helping me enough...the air i breath ( rebreath) is still too hot and humid. I aready turned off all the heating settings. I have tried ice cubes to wrap the hose and that helps somewhat but that melts over a short time.

Wow. If that doesn't make you cool in bed, I don't know what will.coolair search wrote:Have turned the room air to 60 degrees
You could position your CPAP machine so the air intake is facing and very close to a HVAC outlet.
But don't blame me if you wake up with the driest airway and sinuses you could imagine.

What I did for someone with a Airsense 10 who felt the hot moisture:
No water in humidifier.
Humidifier at zero, 0.
I turned the hose temperature to 26 C which is 78.8 F.
The next comment was it felt like they were breathing normal room air.
Nasal pillow type mask
Bedroom between 72 to 74 F about 50% humidity
They may feel different in the dead of winter.
