Amara View Sizing

Post by tuzacat » Sun Sep 27, 2015 5:25 pm

Hi, All, I am trying to figure out which size to get in the Amara View. According to the sizing guide I'm a little into the medium zone. However, when I tried the other mask (whose name escapes me now) with a similar nose piece the medium leaked terribly and the small worked better. I did a search on here but was unable to find any kind of consensus. Does anyone have any thoughts about this? Too bad there is no fit pack. Thanks so much! Best, Tuza

I have the Amara view. My therapist fitted me with a small. He told me that for whatever reason, you need the right shape and size "nares" to wear it otherwise you will have serious leak issues. It's one of the quitest full face mask if you get it fit right.

Can you tells me more about your nose shape and size? That's one of the biggest factor I think in fitting into a small. Otherwise a medium might just be right as the sizing guide indicates.

I have a small rounded nose, like a child's nose so a small fit just right. I think and correct me please if I'm wrong but people with slotted nostrils require a slightly bigger size for the Amara view. Hope this helps!

Thanks, Linda and OkyDoky, I'm a little over the medium line in the sizing guide. I think I will order the medium and see what happens. I can always use my F10 and then order the smaller nose piece next month. Fingers crossed! Tuza

After 20+ years of trying to be compliant with CPAP, I am now trying again. It makes me mad, in retrospect, that I was handed a CPAP machine and mask (1995) and told how to us it. Little did I know there were other mask options. After yrs of giving up, I had the throat surgery (AWFUL, MADE ME WORSE).

I now have a new CPAP machine (my third!) and am using the Amara Full View mask. I am on night 5 - three of those were not bad (I still only got 5-6 hrs sleep with mask on - always take it off at some point in the night) and the other two nights I had really lousy sleep.

For some reason last night, OMG, I could not get comfortable with the Amara mask at all (I own 7 masks and have been praying this will work for me) - it kept making farting noises (sorry!) so I kept adjusting.... I finally gave up and took it off. Any thoughts from Amara users?

PS - I do love the automatic online tracking report the machine provides so I can see how I do. If nothing else, compliance is forced Medicare requires a certain percentage of compliance or they will not pay for the machine ...so this is incentive to 'make it work!!'

Fiddle with it, is the best advice I can give. Oh and make sure the silicon gasket and your face is oil free.
What I have found with all face masks is that the top straps and the bottom straps do different things and change how the mask sits on my face. I can cause lower leaks or upper leaks.

When I adjust the straps I find that adjusting by a very small amount like 1/4 to 1/8 of an inch is all that is needed. I never just hold the ends of the straps, but always push the strap against my face with my fingers. Carefully undo the Velcro and use the finger pressure to keep the strap from moving. Then loosen the finger pressure and move the strap, and push the Velcro back down. This is the only way I have found to be able to do small adjustments.

I always adjust the left and right straps at the same time

With the Amara View where the lower part of the mask sits on my chin is important, sometimes I pull down on the back of the headgear to get it to sit right

I started out pushing the mask up onto the bottom of my nose, now I let it float at the bottom of my nose and let it inflate to seal best.

If the seal is slippery when you wake up, then you may want to look into liners to keep moisture and face oil under control. Does it leak right from the start or only later in the night?

Oops. Meant to add that last night was the only real problem I had with the leaking and it was from the very start. Since it is a new mask I have only had for a few days, I need to be patient and will take your advice into consideration 2nite!!

Not having a moisture problem either.
