Just got my first machine 2 nights ago, waking up for leaks. I want to figure out if it's the mask or how I'm wearing it.
Remstar 560 apap, using the Fisher & Paykel Eson mask (size large). I'm set for 5/15, averaging 14.
First night it hit that peak pressure and air leaked all around the Eson mask. Couldn't make it stop so just turned the machine off.
Consulted with my provider the next day, they advised to tighten the headgear.
So I tightened and got some change -- when it hits that high pressure it no longer leaks everywhere, just at the top of the nose. I was unable to fix that by tightening, loosening, or adjusting -- I ended up turning the machine off/on to reset the pressure.
My mom (also uses a machine) said before trying a different mask I should ask here for advice, there might be ways to tweak the mask to deal with the nose leaking.

Re: F&K Eson nose leaks
Any mask should be fitted at your highest possible pressure so that it won't leak when the machine gets there. This is one of my biggest pet peeves about "professionals" fitting us with a mask. In my own case, the DME puts the mask on while I'm sitting in a chair and then bristles when I ask them to set up a machine for me to test the fit at my highest pressure. Masks should be fitted while you're laying down and at your highest pressure. (Any mask will fit when you're sitting up in a chair and not under pressure, so my DMEs procedure is a ridiculous way to do things, IMO.)squinky wrote:Just got my first machine 2 nights ago, waking up for leaks. Set your APAP for straight (CPAP) pressure at 14 or 15 (the max you usually see), lay down with your mask on, and move around as you would when sleeping (sides, back, stomach, whichever position(s) apply). Make small adjustments to the headgear while in those positions, and you should get a decent fit.
Good luck.
Veni, vidi, Velcro. I came, I saw, I stuck around.

Re: F&K Eson nose leaks
Update: gave up on eson. Tightening up enough to stop the leaks gave me head/cheek marks that lasted 5-6 hours.
Now trying Respironics Dreamwear.
