Is it possible they never give me my Bipap/Cpap?

Post by Enchanter » Thu Sep 03, 2015 9:52 pm

It's already September. Will be Christmas very soon. Seems like they were supposed to give me the mask a couple of months ago. It felt like I reached the last step, which was calling the healthcare. And the last 3 weeks, they haven't picked up the phone. They picked up at the beginning but now they haven't. So I'm starting to think I'm getting played. If they were really going to give me the equipment, wouldn't it have been done already? I don't see what has to change for me to somehow get a call from them saying it's ready. I don't see any reason to believe I'll get the equipment ever.

Now I'm not filing lawsuits or threatening the doctor or anything crazy like some have suggested. What is the most SENSIBLE and reasonable thing I can do now?

If your doctor won't pick up the phone, go there and talk to the receptionist. Tell them you want a copy of your sleep study and CPAP prescription. Find out where the prescription was sent.

Have you paid anything for the machine yet?

So you have no prescription? Or are somehow unable to obtain a copy of your prescription?

So just ask and I suspect half a dozen people on here will donate you a mask. Maybe one of them will satisfy you.

BTW... what is "The Healthcare", DMEs?

To be honest, every time you post something new, I think to myself... why don't you show up at the DME? There's no way they can hang up on you if you walk right into their office. But that's way too easy.

And then I think to myself, you're probably pulling everyone's leg. It's so much easier to post here on this forum than to actually show up at the DME. Everytime you post here, your credibility goes further down.

When you say "Healthcare" will not answer the phone, we have no clue WHO you are talking about. I believe you mean the sleep testing center will not take your call.
If the sleep study center can not deliver your results for whatever reason, then you need to make some decision. First off, inform your insurance Co. not to pay them. Next, contact your primary care Dr. and request a sleep study from a different sleep center.

For others responding, I believe Enchanter has never gotten his sleep center test results or a diagnosis with a prescription. I don't think the DME is the problem, since he hasn't gotten to that point yet where he even has a prescription or sleep apnea diagnosis.

Here's what to do:
1. Inform your insurance Co the sleep center will not release your results.
2. Ask ins. Co and your primary care Dr. to advise you on where to get a new sleep study done.
3. Get a new sleep study.

Give up on the original sleep study center. They are not going to release your test results. I know you posted previously the sleep center deleted your results.

Just a guess here....but...as I remember from earlier posts, it was enchanter that insisted that he had SA and needed oxygen in his brain. Possibly the sleep study revealed that he did not have SA and he has been pestering the doctor and sleep center. They may be simply ignoring him.....This is just a guess.

Enchanter- a simple question for you.

Have you ever received written test results or a prescription for a cpap machine?

HIPPA regulations allow patient access to their test results.....

"You can ask to see or get a copy of your medical record and other health information. If you want a
copy, you may have to put your request in writing and pay for the cost of copying and mailing. In most
cases, your copies must be given to you within 30 days."

Try using the machine and mask that was given to you, later if you want to pursue a new test, wait till this has simmered down. They very well may be avoiding you...just sayin...

In all honesty, I/we have no damned clue what it is you're trying to do or expecting them to do.
You seem to mix up machines with masks and apparently EXPECT them to GIVE you "something".
Maybe it's time for you to buy whatever it is you need out-of-pocket and quit expecting handouts from "whomever".

What is the DME?

I have a primary doctor and he has an assistant, who I talk to. They referred me to a sleep lab. I did the tests over at the sleep lab. The sleep lab said that my mask should be ready, but it's the healthcare that has to give it to me. My doctor's assistant told me to call the healthcare. The first time I called the healthcare they said they have the mask, but they were given a Bipap machine, but needed a diagnosis. The lab said they deleted the original tests. But when I spoke to the doctors assistant she said I should be good, just give the healthcare a call and they should have my mask. Ever since then, I've been calling the healthcare and they haven't picked up the phone, they've been busy 24-7 and haven't picked up.

Any other questions? That's me explaining as the situation as simple as I can.

DME (Durable Medical Equipment) are the dealers who provide machines and masks after your doctor sends them your prescription - they can't provide those without a script. We (outside of your state) don't know what "the healthcare" means... is it an insurance provider or an equipment (DME) dealer?

Do you have a prescription for equipment or not - without it you're spinning your wheels .

If you do have one then you can send it to e.g. Cpap.com or any other dealer (DME) and get what you need. If you do NOT have one your doctor (by law) should either be giving it to you or else you should be seeing another doctor who will likely want you to have another set of tests before giving out a prescription - presuming you do have a sleep disorder that needs treating.

You need an advocate to take care of all this because you obviously are unable to do it yourself. It's been suggested many times, but you do nothing but call your original doctor's office (who I imagine stopped taking you seriously long ago) and tell us about it... which has gotten you nowhere. Either follow advice or stop asking for it because you're making yourself look foolish and are wasting our time and energy and goodwill. So many have wanted to help you, but you don't respond to what we say, so eventually we get fed up and no longer want to help. Respond to our advice or find help somewhere else.

Great post Julie.

Yes folks, I know I said previously for folks to stop responding to Enchanter so yes, I am guilty of not following my own advice. Just wanted to save you the trouble of reminding me. LOL!

Enchanter, the bottom line is if you want your machine and mask, you'll find a way to overcome the roadblocks.

Otherwise I agree with Julie that you continue to waste everyone's time by posting on this thread.

The DME is the healthcare company that you are calling. Show up at the damn store and you'll get served. But I guess it's still better to call and pretend that you're actually doing something.
