Bed Elevation Question
Bed Elevation Question
All,
Granny and others recommended that I look at elevating my bed or use a wedge again for GI issues. The recommended pillow has a height of 7 inches, but I'm assuming it has a little give to compress to around 5 or 6 inches.
For those just raisng the bed, what height did you settle on? I had mine at three inches before, which probably wasn't enough. Did any of you raise a sleigh bed? It seems it would be hard to get to 6 inches.
Thanks for the thoughts.
Best,
Mike

Mine is 4.5...I just measured it. Been that way for over 12 years. I had GERD surgery in 2002.

Re: Bed Elevation Question
Mine is 2 bricks on each post so whatever that is...maybe 5-6 inches. It works for me.

Re: Bed Elevation Question
I just measured mine and it is 3.5 inches. The bed is on standard block bed risers that my wife bought at one of the department stores.Macpage wrote:I had mine at three inches before, which probably wasn't enough.
My GI doc said 3.5 is enough and my experience bears that out. Just a little gravitational pull in the right direction does wonders. You don't need the force of Niagara.
BTW, have you had an upper GI endoscopy? Reflux is not something to mess around with because of the nasty conditions it can lead to.
Re: Bed Elevation Question
I can probably get to that, just one more piece of 2x6. At some point, I'll run out of support in the middle.LSAT wrote:Mine is 4.5...I just measured it. Been that way for over 12 years. I had GERD surgery in 2002.
How did the surgery work out? I hoped it helped.

I guess one could just sleep in a sack suspended from the ceiling or one of those kinky swings.Goofproof wrote:When you awaken and find yourself on the floor at the foot of the bedm you have went too far. Jim

Like me, it sounds like you are using whatever was handy at the time.knothead wrote:Mine is 2 bricks on each post so whatever that is...maybe 5-6 inches. It works for me.

Re: Bed Elevation Question
Thanks. I had a relatively common endoscopy with only a finding of mild inactive gastritis, which seems to fit my symptoms the best. Neither endoscopy or upper GI noted hernia, but I was 40 pounds lighter from the sudden host of apnea type symptoms or whatever this was. I'd been back to my normal weight of 210 for months before the symptoms of whatever came back. Never really got anything but mild reflux after lots of nights without sleep and had no symptoms this year without medication.Midnight Strangler wrote:I just measured mine and it is 3.5 inches. Whatever it is makes it very difficult to get to sleep. There is a great sense of uneasiness and uncomfortable sensations from the left abdomen when lying down anytime. I follow guidelines for reflux but no help. The anxiety doesn't help at all.
Best,
Mike

ARMYDUFFLE bag, 2 holes in the bottom, for legs, one in side for face mask and hose. It has the added advantage, in a night break in, you should see those tough guys run. Just hang it from the ceiling fan, but don't turn it on.
