Do I need to reduce pressure

Post by cliffau » Fri Aug 28, 2015 8:48 pm

I have COPD, OSA and asbestosis, I have been using a F&P HC234 on 12cm pressure. Recently I have been finding it difficult to overcome this pressure comfortably. Would it be advisable to try a lower pressure

If you have all of those conditions and are using a non-data-capable machine (like that one), I'd strongly recommend getting a machine that will provide data so you can monitor your therapy with software.
Frequently, some of those conditions can be a threshold for using a bi-level/BiPAP machine.
How long has it been since you've had a sleep study?

What do you mean overcome the pressure? Are you waking up with pressure surges, aerophagia (air in the belly), mask leaks, lungs hurting or something else? The list goes on and on. 12cm is in the middle range. Please fill out your equipment profile in TEXT option, that helps us a lot. A data capable machine is a must, as Den said.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

If you're finding it hard to exhale, there should be a feature on your machine to help with that... but without knowing which machine you have it's hard to advise.

If you have been using CPAP for a while and just now started having trouble exhaling against the pressure then something may have changed in terms of your lungs and what I would do is be seeing the doctor to have the lungs checked out.

He is using the F & P SleepStyle Series which is older model (and it's a brick) and I don't think it has any special exhale relief features.

Given the age/model of machine if he has been using it a while and just now having problems then something may have changed in terms of his lung/respiratory issues and I think that the first thing that needs to be done, given the history, is go see the doc and have the lungs checked out and talk to the doc about the difficulties.

If he just now started cpap...I would be returning the old brick and push for a full data machine new model and a machine that has real exhale relief (like the ResMed EPR which think would be better for someone with lung issues) but keep the doc in the loop for sure.
