What to do with old machine?

Post by gmsmith » Wed Aug 26, 2015 3:48 pm

I picked up a new AirCurve VAuto today (as a result of a new sleep study last week).I have a Resmed S9 Elite that I can no longer use given my prescription, what do people normally do with these machines? Do they have any value? I have the machine, the humidifier, a brand new climate hose if that makes a difference. It doesn't have many hours on it (I fell off the wagon so to speak a few years ago). Any suggestions welcome!

You can post the total hours used and what you want for it, if you want to sell it. Personally, I'd keep it as a back-up unit. The old unit might come in handy at some point. Some of the new Resmed machines seem to have a few bugs in em. That is why I recently specified a new S9 Autoset for my replacement machine and avoided the Airsense models. GLWS.

I'd suggest keeping it for a backup machine.
If you've BEEN using it, it's obviously better than nothing.......in the event your new one craps out some night.
It may not give the exact therapy you need but would get you by in a pinch.

If you don't need a backup machine, send Pugsy a PM... she's always looking for used machines to donate to people in dire straits.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

I was going to say a combination of all the responses. I have a S9 autoset as a backup, while I use an S9 bipap on a nightly basis. When I get my next machine, I will donate one of them to a needy person. Some folks are down on their luck and need help.

+1 for keeping it as a backup - always have at least one available as it can take a long time to get a machine fixed between shipping, authorization, etc. Since the elite is the least desirable model, it's not worth a lot anyway.

Machines do fail and/or develop problems.

But, it IS fully data-capable.

In my book, the "Escape" models are the least desirable.

I use my old machine for travel. That is a lot more convenient, since it stays packed and ready to go. Also, my regular machine does not get exposed to things in airports or motels, or where I'm staying. Plus it's a backup.

I'm in the 'keep it as a backup' camp. If you have to send your machine in for repair, you could be looking at a 6-8 week wait. Not all DMEs have backup machines for their clients. That said, maybe you need the cash to pay for your current machine or don't have the space for extras. My brother never had a backup and his machine never failed him. Now he has a new machine and his old machine is his backup (it's too old to be sold and too many run hours to donate) to take to the hospital.

I have a Resmed S8 Elite II with humidifier as a backup with very low hours. It isn't anything special, but it will get the job done if I need it to. It is nice and keeps my mind at ease knowing I have that to fall back on if I have to. Now I am just trying to figure out a battery backup without spending a fortune so I don't have to worry all the time about power outages. They rarely happen where I live, but I can't help but think about them and be concerned and want my therapy to be able to continue. So if anyone has any input on that let me know. Sorry if it seems like I am trying to hijack the thread. I just wanted to share my thoughts.

My backup Resmed S8 Elite II has 1,112 hours on it. I thought this was very low and it was a bargain for me.
