[Poll] How do you monitor your CPAP therapy?

Post by yaconsult » Mon Aug 03, 2015 1:52 pm

I thought it might be interesting to have a poll about how or if people monitor their CPAP therapy.

Feel free to post comments and discussion on monitoring or not monitoring your therapy and why.

[This post has an attached poll which you may not see if you are on a mobile device.]

When I want to check (which is not very often at all) I get a few #'s from the screen of my IntelliPap, enter them in a little box on Cpap.com, hit the button and get a report which I usually copy for records. It takes a whole ? 90 secs and while it doesn't give all the parameters that ResMed or Respironics do, it gives all the basics I need re AHI, leaks, pressures, flow, etc. It's too bad you didn't include this on the poll. The IP also comes with a module and software if you want to spend $150, but I don't feel the need.

I have an S9 VPAP Auto and I check my stuff every time I wake up... not because I have to but because I can with minimum effort and I am typically stuck for 10 or so minutes after sitting up on the edge of the bed before I can go anywhere anyways.

Headphones off if I am wearing them, Mask off, machine shuts off automatically, sit up on edge of bed. Grab my phone and might check email or some other status, but normally quickly remote into my workstation from my phone, use FlashPAP to wirelessly get the data from the machine to the workstation, import into SleepyHead and I can review right then. Always a bit of a bet to see if what I think happened that last session did or didn't...

As for the screen... almost never look at it. Hard to do kinda anyway as it is not up on top of a nightstand but rather on a shelf with another shelf above it.

However, in my trip the San Diego this weekend, I obviously didn't have a way to do my normal thing, so I did look at the screen just to get an idea of how much sleep I was getting a reasonable idea of the quality. It was a very soft bed and I had some issues sleeping on it. When I got home, first thing I did after I reset the machine, was check it via FlashPAP and SH and see if what I saw was accurate (it was).

People on this forum are poll nuts. Has anything useful ever come out of these polls? lol

Poll options changed to incorporate suggestions - which resets the votes. Please vote again if you would like your vote included.

A number of people have said that they found the polls useful and learned something from them. They are another way to share information and learn new things.

I agree...Polls are a waste of time......yaconsult seems to like them. Maybe he can't make a decision unless he sees what everybody else is doing.
He has started several.

I don't think this one is nearly as useless or obnoxious as most.
I have copied data off the display since July, 2010; and used Sleepyhead intermittently until I retired.
After retiring, I did the Sleepyhead thing weekly; but when I got the Airsense10,
my computer was not compatible with the software. Later on, it seemed like more than I needed to do.
When I use the Intellipap, I also get most of the same info off the display. Codes not necessary.

Yeah, I suspect this poll comes under the category of "What difference, at this point, does it make?" (HRC)

But, for what it's worth, I've been using Encore Pro (Respironics software) and MyEncore (add-in developed by forum member Derek) since I started therapy (May 14, 2005). I keep a variety of statistics (nightly, monthly, yearly and summary) based on those reports in various forms.

I'm glad that my voting on this poll, is going to help your treatment, although I can't figure out how it will. I'm sure in 10 years others that vote on this thread will feel better for it. Jim

I like the polls and find most of them interesting to view
even if they don't qualify as research results or offer stunning new insights.
No doubt they appeal to we newer members more than those with thousands of posts.

Polls are just another form of communication,
and initiating them would not seem to deserve so much scorn.

They are plainly marked and easily avoided.

The polls are no bother to me. It's so easy to glance at them and then move on.

Well yea, that is the problem with them. Newbies, who know little, may be misled by them. The members with "thousands of posts" know to ignore them. Newbies may not.

I like the idea that people may become interested in using data, especially getting a machine which captures data.
Showing that one can choose how to view data, and that it is not always necessary to "have it all" is good, too.
This is one point where this forum is unique; and hopefully, a proof of concept for reform of the system, should that ever happen.

The first pinned post on the forum's index page is a Sleepyhead tutorial. I am sure glad that was there when I first found this forum.

The poll would have only been confusing when I was a newbie. I hope other newbies see Pugsy's tutorial and don't bother to get confused by this poll.
