Mask Seal on Airsense 10

Post by MarylandCPAPer » Mon Aug 03, 2015 11:05 am

What does it mean when the A10 for Her shows a red frowny face on the display next to "Mask Seal" after the machine shuts off after I take off my mask? I am using Airfit P10 nasal pillows that I think fit fine. I have not gotten the red frowny face before and have been using this machine with this mask for a month.

It means you had leaks, I think

an old-timer (2010) get a question answered by someone that just registered last month.
If you're not part of the solution you're just scumming up the bottom of the beaker!

You had some excessive leaking. Did you set up an account on myair.resmed.com?

Unfortunately, neither the display nor myair give you the details that you would like - like how long there was excessive leaking or when during the night. To see these helpful details, you need to install sleepyhead. Pugsy has a most excellent thread on sleepyhead here: viewtopic/t88983/Pugsys-PointersSleepyH ... Hints.html

Many people have occasional excessive leaking and it's only a problem if it happens for too long or too often. When the leaking is excessive, the machine may or may not be able to compensate and still successfully treat your apnea during that period.

I have Sleepyhead and Rescan 5.4.1 installed and check the data regularly. I have not had anything that warranted a frowny face before.

Since I just got the frowny face (1 pm) and the A10 registers a new day around noon, I will have have to wait until after midnight tomorrow to be able to get Sleepyhead data from my SD card that might shed some light. I don't think I will even be able to see the data from my sleep today (from approximately 3 am until 1 pm) until after midnight tomorrow. Is that how Sleepyhead works? I never go to sleep before midnight, so I am always at least a day behind when I download data and try to check my most sleep period on Sleepyhead.

The manual says "Mask seal indicates how well your mask sealed. A red frowny face means 'Needs Adjusting, see Mask Fit.'"

Mask Fit says to follow the mask user guide to fit the mask. Also, "Run MASK FIT and pres the dial. The device starts blowing air. Adjust the mask, mask cushion, and headgear until you get a Good result."

The nasal pillows fit just fine, and the A10 hasn't complained until now. I suppose I should check to see if my nose chewed a hole in one of the nasal pillows or something. The latest display reading of AHI is 2.4 (presumably for the one hour since noon).

You can look at any session as soon as you load it into SH regardless of what time it is.
Current Settings PS 4.0 over 10.6-18.0 (cmH2O) - Resmed S9 VPAP Auto w/h5i Humidifier - Quattro Air FFM
TNET Sleep Resource Pages - CPAP Machine Database
Put your equip in your Signature - SleepyHead v1.0.0-beta-1

That is not my experience. All of my sleep for "last night" would be on August 3. I cannot see August 3 data on Sleepyhead even though I have downloaded the latest data.

You can see your data using the software at anytime. No need to wait.
Example..you could take a 2 hour nap from 4 PM to 6 PM today and turn the machine off and let it write to the SD card (takes maybe a minute or less) then pull your SD card and use the software and see the nap and then when you go to bed tonight that time will be added to the nap time but you can see it all separately.
What the machine does with the 12 Noon thing for updating that screen has nothing to do with what goes on the SD card.
If you took a nap prior to 12 Noon today (per the machine) that data will be on last night's report.

Regarding Mr Frowny face...he shows up with the large leaks make up more than 30% of the sleep session.
It's pretty bad leak when Mr Frowny shows up.

Pugsy, that has not been my experience on Sleepyhead. All of my sleep last night was technically "Today" August 3, but there is no data in SH from August 3 available in SH from my SD card. I have checked many times and I never can see SH data for the same day after downloading data from the SD card.

How do nasal pillows leak??

I will investigate this further later. I have to run for a dr. appt.

Thank you all for your help.

When you go to bed after midnight SleepyHead will date the report the same/current day as when you started the machine. That's why it shows Aug 3 on the calendar instead of Aug 2.
Not a big deal.
If you had turned the machine on at 11:59 PM last night then it would show up on the Aug 2 calendar date.
Anything done up to 12 Noon today will show up on the Aug 3 calendar date...after that it depends on when you start the machine again.

What causes nasal pillow leaks? Assuming no holes in the hose and the short hose is attached to the nasal pillows correctly...2 things are the possible culprits.
Either the nasal pillows move out of the nostrils or the mouth opens and air escapes via the mouth.

I just ran "Mask Fit" on the machine and got a green smiley face even before I put on the mask. After I put on the mask and the machine started blowing air Mr. Smiley Face remained.

I suppose my A10 was just in a bad mood this morning when it gave me a red frowny face. My doctor was amused by my report of the red frowny face. Fortunately, she's known me long enough to know that I am not a nutcase who imagines smiley faces and frowny faces on my CPAP machine. Why ResMed, WHY?? Frowny and smiley faces, REALLY?

instead of all the faffing about, loading the data into resscan or sleepyhead and looking at how much of the time you spent with large leaks would actually be *useful*

I have loaded the data into Rescan 5.4.1 and Sleepyhead. The date data is shown in the software dows not correspond with the date on which my sleep occurred, so I am having some trouble making real life correspond with the data. However, I am not spending any time in large leaks, according to those 2 programs.
