Understanding Graphs

Post by Corky1121 » Sat Aug 01, 2015 7:28 am

Now that i've got this sleepyhead software working in the last two days, I'm looking at the graphs. Are these fairly accurate?

I'm looking at the AHI by pressure and last night for 1.1 minute I had an index of 57.14 at pressure 12, then all 0.0 after that. Does that graph accurately show what your index is, hence a pressure change to correct?

The AHI chart starts as 0.0 for several minutes than steadily climbs up and down through the night.

I don't plan on checking this data every day, but for now while trying to get the right mask, I want to check.

Also back to the leaks, I now am trying the small F&P Simplus and still it leaks whether tight or loose or in between. or when I move my head around or twitch my itchy nose . I have ordered a liner from padacheek to try.

The nasal mask I had been using with chin strap also showed some high leaks too, but my index was always lower on the nasal vs. ffm.

As for sleep, I still wake up once or twice and have mild headaches at times, and I have yet to wake up feeling well rested, except for a day or two.

I have a small nose, mouth, and chin, so maybe even this small FFM is too big? Maybe the liner will help

Any FFM recommendations would be appreciated.

Thank you.

The graphs are accurate in what they show but you have to understand what they are showing.
The AHI graph (on the right side) is an hour by hour graph and if you zoom in on that 1 minute segment it extrapolates that 1 minute to give you a "this is what it would have been if this continued for 1 hour"...it's not a particularly useful graph except to maybe see clustering and that is actually better seen on the events graphs.
The AHI graph can easily confuse a person if they don't understand it and for this reason I suggest that the AHI graph be turned off so that a more useful graph comes into view.

See this thread for examples of what I normally like to see in terms of graphs.

Now the AHI bar graphs on the left side above the statistics are very important.

Hi Corky1121,

This AHI graph is more confusing than anything, especialy for a newbie! It's just a trending graph base on the average for the last X minutes... The spike that you notice just show that you had a (probably) small cluster of events but you can see that in the "Event Flags" or "Flow Rate" graphs. I remember the first few days when I start looking at my data in Sleepyhead, It was one of the first graph I would look and just didn't get it at first. I had 2 to 4 spikes a night that were well over 50 and many over 90! It has some (very limited) use but I would suggest that you don't put to much attention to it. The 4 mosts important graphs to look at are those ones: "Event Flags", "Flow Rate", Pressure and "Leak Rate". And yes, they are accurate, at least as much as the machine can be.

What was the AHI for the whole night (left pane in the orange bar)? At the begining of therapy, I think you should concentrate on leaks then make sure that your AHI for the night is under five but don't worry to much even if it's a little bit over 5 the first few nights.

Sorry don't have any recommendation on FFM.

EDIT: For some unexplained reason I didn't see Pugsy's post when I sumit mine... Anyway she did explained the AHI graph a bit better than me but I guess now you see our point!

Thank you Pugsy. Where is the AHI graph on left side of statistics, I don't see that. I have left side, happy face, a calendar, and then table of, details, events, etc. no other charts on left side.

Also the "Events Flag" chart is always blank. Is that normal?

And, how do I copy the charts and import here?

The thread I linked to above has instructions (links) that explain how to post images like the examples in that thread.
If you don't see the AHI colored bars on the left side and the events graph is totally blank then we may have a problem with SH and your particular computer. Perhaps with the graphics components..
If you see the pie chart and the calendar...scroll down a bit on the detailed tab (make sure not in one of the other tabs) you should see some colored bars (look at the examples I posted in the link above) that have each event category showing with some sort of number.

If you can't see what I show in the example linked above....post an image of what you do see and we will go from there.
We may need to let me get a copy of your SD card and run it on my software so we can see what is going on and at least get you some sort of idea how your therapy is progressing.

It might also be that you didn't have any event during that night, are all your nights showed an empty Event Flags graphs? It happened to me a few time when I got an AHI of zero. At least, there should surely be something in that graph for the night you where referencing in your first post.
