First night on cpap in months

Post by HuskerNOKC » Thu Jul 30, 2015 11:24 am

So last night was my first night using my machine in several months, and it went quite well I think, my new mask I ordered is much more comfortable than my older mask. Can someone take a look at this data and tell me what it means?

Just for the record my untreated AHI was 81.

Last nights data from sleepyhead...

AHI 1.62
Obstructive Index .90
Hypopnea Index .54
Clear Airway Index .18
Flow Limitation Index 0.00
RERA Index 4.51 <---- no clue what this means, it seems much higher than all the other numbers so I'm not sure if that's bad or not.
% of time in Cheyne Strokes Respiration 0.00%

Average Leak Rate 3.14
90% Leak Rate 14.00
% of time above leak rate threshold 3.01%

Pressure was at a constant 13 all night.

Any information you could provide will be AWESOME!

Thanks everyone!

I'm no expert, but those are pretty good numbers!

You can look up what RERAs are, but you should see them go down further after a week or two. I still get 5 or 6 a night, but they last only a few seconds unless I have a large leak going on. If after a month they are still lasting over 30 seconds, then I would consider bumping the pressure up a notch and see how it goes.

Glad to hear that you are doing better with a different mask!

For terminology definitions see the glossary
http://sleepyhead.sourceforge.net/wiki/ ... p/Glossary

For a general overview see the Announcements section of the main forum page and look for the SleepyHead tutorial..in the top of the Announcements section.

Overall really good numbers.
Since you have a Respironics machine you might look at the Preferences/CPAP tab and check to see if you have a check mark in "flag leaks over so and so"...I think it may default to 24 L/min which is a ResMed number and if there is a check mark and the 24 L/min that 3% time above leak rate threshold could be incorrect.
The large leak threshold is much higher for Respironics machines.
But even if it is 3 % that isn't enough to worry about....just means for 3 % of the night.
I noticed this because I use both brands of machines and SleepyHead gives me some really wild large leak % numbers when I have it set for the ResMed machine.

The RERA index.....just watch it as it could potentially point to poor sleep quality. See the definition in the glossary. Should it remain like it is now then perhaps just a little more pressure to better hold the airway open is indicated if you feel your sleep could be improved upon or you find yourself waking often.

According to your profile you have a non-data-capable CPAP.
If that's the case, how did you get the data? If your profile is showing the wrong machine, I'd recommend correcting that.

Good data, but why haven't you been using your machine for that extended amount of time?

That box for "flag leaks over" is checked and it is set to 24 L/min, what should I change that to?

And the reason I have not used it in so long is it was almost impossible for me to keep my mask on for the full night or even get to sleep in general, but I NEED to get this right I have just been feeling super tired lately and sleeping through my alarm clock on alot of days.

As for my machine being non data capable, I'm not sure I just picked what I thought it was, but after looking at the machine I do have the REMStar pro, so thanks for sharing that information.

Thank's for the replies and if there is any other data you need me to post to help me out I'd be glad to upload it!

Probably somewhere around 85 to 90 L/min with your pressure and your mask. Respironics doesn't ever give us a set number because it can vary with mask, pressure and machine.
I doubt you ever come close to large leak territory though.
