Repairing Small Hole in Heated Tube?
Repairing Small Hole in Heated Tube?
I just recently purchased my machine and hose after trying things out for a bit with my RT.
I'm using an AirSense 10 AutoSet for Her with a heated tube. I had it at home for only a couple of weeks when my cat decided to see how the tube would taste. So there's a small puncture and a few other tooth marks on it. With the puncture, I can't use is as it's leaking air loudly.
Has anyone every tried to repair a very small hole in a heated tube? Any recommendations on how best to do this?
Thanks.
P.S. The cat has sworn never to do this again.

If you're not part of the solution you're just scumming up the bottom of the beaker!

Re: Repairing Small Hole in Heated Tube?
Wrap it in tape to seal it. Pretty much any durable tape should do - electrical, painter's, duct, etc. Check it for leaks afterwards. Because of the spiraling, you want to make sure you get a good seal and that it doesn't leak where the tape ends.
The hose doesn't get very warm at all so the temperature shouldn't be a problem. You can decide for yourself if you want to try another solution, but this should get you back in business for tonight.

I'd probably use a bit of tape... and keep more handy

Yeah, I would agree that something like "Duck Tape" (or duct tape) would get you by for the time being or longer.
Two things I always keep handy are the aforementioned tape and Krazy Glue.

Re: Repairing Small Hole in Heated Tube?
I have two kitties, one of them demolished a few tubes on my old machine. Of course I got to a point where I didn't want to keep buying tubing so I just got some heavy duty duct tape and taped it up really good. Seemed to work.
Since I have gotten a new machine with a heated hose I have been much better about keeping it out of paws reach when not in use. I unhook the hose every morning and place it, along with my mask, in my nightstand drawer and haven't had any more little holes poked where they shouldn't be.

Flexible putty followed by electrical tape is what we used on bro's hose awhile back.

One other suggestion is to go the pharmacy and get a small syringe and needle. Put some silicone sealant in the syringe, and inject just a tiny bit into the holes with just a little bit on the outside as well. When the sealant hardens, it will form a plug with a supporting head inside and out that will keep it from falling off. Clear silicone will be almost invisible and won't interfere with the hose flexibility.
Just a thought.
Just a thought.

Re: Repairing Small Hole in Heated Tube?
Someone once told me that they repaired a tiny pin hole sized hole in their hose with fingernail polish.
I don't know that I would try that but thought I would mention it.
For myself if my cats from hell put a hole in my hose I would probably just duct tape over the hole as long as it still seemed to heat up like it is supposed to.
Fortunately my cats from hell don't seem to care about cpap stuff...they like power cords and rubber modem stuff instead...which unfortunately costs a lot more than a heated hose.
So far no fried kitties but I keep telling them to leave the power cords alone or they will end up fried kitty.

Having extensive experience repairing a wide variety of hose leaks I find that Rescue Tape works very well. It is easy to apply and lasts a long time.

That is what I would use. You can also get it at Home Depot or Lowes. It is a stretchy self amalgamating tape that sticks only to itself. Works on radiator hoses and all sorts of stuff.HoseCrusher wrote:Having extensive experience repairing a wide variety of hose leaks I find that Rescue Tape works very well. Re: Repairing Small Hole in Heated Tube?
If the cat is really naughty, you might also get a hose cover... go here: http://www.padacheek.com . Then it will be harder for the cat to the hose, and it's easier to repair a hole in fabric than in the hose.
