OT: Dad is moving out

Post by BlackSpinner » Tue Jul 28, 2015 12:45 pm

For those who followed the original soap opera.....
The truck is being packed as I type.

Joy of Joys! The house is now (legally) ours!

Tonight the heat will not be on because the house has dropped below 24c.

Tomorrow we can start getting rid of 1000 gnomes and dwarfs, the formerly white wall to wall carpets, the big oversized ugly furniture, the multiple old dead computers, the software books dating to the 70's, the TRS80 & accessories.

71. The lame can ride on horseback, the one-handed drive cattle. The deaf, fight and be useful. To be blind is better than to be burnt on the pyre. No one gets good from a corpse. The Havamal

Oh, the fun of cleaning up after hoarders!
My mother in law has been dead since mid 2009, and we STILL
have a house full of ugly old crap nobody wants.
Putting a roll-off in the driveway would be a great idea, except
the neighborhood is full of freeloaders who can fill it up faster than we can.
We may have to camp out with a weapon to chase them away.

The passing of an era often brings joy, but there is also a sense of sadness that the era has passed.

I celebrate with you in your joy and walk hand in hand with you in your "loss."

I find this sad ! I'm 77 now. I hope when I'm older my children won't be absolutely elated to be rid of me . As you are-------with your dad.

Older? You sure they wouldn't like to get rid of you tonight?

Watch your back.

You missed the key phrase: "For those who followed the original soap opera....." If you treat your kids as did her dad, you should watch your back.

Taking care of my mother in law was a chore, but she was still able to accept and give love.
That makes it all worth it. Very sad when any person becomes paranoid and combative.
Incontinence is a minor inconvenience, all things considered.

Is your dad getting a place of his own or going to a facility? I know you've had a long hard road with your parents. Reminds me of when many years ago I left the courthouse after the final divorce hearing from a very bad person who had tried to destroy me. I practically danced into work celebrating until a coworker looked at me very somber and sad "Divorce should make you sad, not happy." Well, it did sober me up a bit, but in my heart I was still dancing. Sorry you've had to go through so much. Hopefully there will be some peace now, for him as well as you.

Hmmm.. I still have most of my older vintage computers TRS-80 Model 3 (got rid of the Model 1 years ago), Victor 9000 etc... you can still play games on the Model 3, very cool ones, though it is all boxed up now.

I missed the back story. I assume it was bad! I'm always happy to see people find the end of the rainbow I hope your dad did too.
That said, my brother is stuck with my nightmare (mother).

Some of those computers could be worth something!

I'm glad you and your sister will be in a much happier place. I would love it if it was 24c here, I'm lucky if it tops 10c!

I also want to say I'm very sorry about your mothers passing, I was in hospital when you posted and have only just caught up.
