Setting cpap machine

Post by seedmanfl » Mon Jul 27, 2015 2:20 pm

I've had this Resmed M series for 7 years and never had a problem. Setting is 9 but it's blowing like a leaf blower. I'm guessing I need a new Machine but thought I would ask if anyone else has had this problem. Thanks Chuck

No. Do you think its actually blowing more air or just way more noise? If it's just more noise than it could be bearings are shot after 7 years.

It's blowing really hard. Setting still says 9 but it's not.

If you have insurance then since it has been 7 years you could be eligible for a brand new machine

These things have a pressure sensor in the exit air path and a flow sensor, they also have a fan motor speed control sensor. Bad sensor, broken wire, open connector, or some major failure on the control board. Not looking good. Of course someone could post that some blah blah piece always come lose, just snap it back into place.

For the record.......ResMed didn't make the M Series machines........Respironics did. Two different companies.

But, you can check the output with simple things like a bucket of water and a ruler that has Centimeter measurements on it.

Check out these posts from a forum search of "manometer". Look for posts referring to "homemade".

On the other hand, over time we get used to the output of these machines and it can seem like they're putting out less air.

If you find yours is putting out less, you can increase the internal pressure setting until the output is what you need. That's what I ended up doing with one of mine........only with mine, the output was actually 3 cm. higher than what the pressure setting was.

Also, make sure your filters have been cleaned or replaced recently. Plugged up filters can really affect the output, too.

when is it "blowing really hard".... when you take the mask off, or remove the hose?

I'm sorry. I (somehow) misread that part of your post.
If it's blowing REALLY HARD when you have your mask on, then there may be something wrong. About 5 years ago I bought a "never-used" machine (REMstar Pro 2) from an individual which had a broken hose nipple inside the machine and it couldn't regulate the pressure like it should. The pressure kept increasing until it would blow my mask off.
I took my machine apart, and found the problem. I ordered some replacement kits from http://www.acbio.com for a few dollars each and that fixed the problem. I used that machine for over 10,000 hours until I switched to another machine (I alternate mine). I was also able to glue the broken hose nipple back onto the output port (with ABS cement) in case it may be needed at some future time. I just used a small finishing nail inserted in the nipple to line up the broken parts before gluing them.......then removed the nail when it hardened.

So, use a homemade manometer and see if it's not regulating the pressure and then decide whether you want to get a different one. There are lots of inexpensive, lightly-used machines on the market at various times and they're not hard to find.

You might also check with http://www.acbio.com and see if they have any ideas what it may take to fix it, too.
